New Member; Surgery tentatively planned for August

Hi.  I've just recently been evaluated for gastric bypass surgery and am eager to find a support group in the Atlanta, GA area - preferably in Woodstock, Roswell, Canton, Alpharetta, or Marietta.  If anyone knows of a group in one of these areas, please let me know. A little about me.  53 year old female who's struggled with weight and eating issues for most of my adult life.  Currently weighing in at 248 lbs.  Professionally, I'm a Respiratory Therapist working in the home medical equipment industry.  My job does seem to play a part in my struggles with weight, as I'm always on the road, have irregular breaks for lunch, etc, and easy access to fast food. I've been working in my current career for the past 12 years.   I'm a little nervous about proceeding with gastric bypass surgery.  At the moment, I'm trying to read as much as possible about what to expect after surgery, the potential risks and/or side effects, the lifestyle that will be required of me, etc.  Education is power. This I know.   I'm very happy that my surgeon (Dr. Paul Macik) requires his patients to do all the work prior to surgery - i.e. meet with their primary care physician to obtain the letter of medical necessity, schedule their own appt. w/psychologist, dietician, etc.  Having these responsibilities to fulfill makes the whole process seem more 'real' - and not so much like a fairy tale.  It has helped me to become more proactive in researching the facts about my impending surgery than I otherwise would have been. Really looking forward to meeting many of you on the site - and to making new friends, and finding support. Lorene
