Travel Agents?

Any Travel AGents around? I have a question...Do you get better rates doing it by yourself like by using Priceline etc. or do you all have a MAGIC button that you can get even better deals? We booked a cruise going to Mexico and the final balance is due next week and Now we are 2nd guessing so Our deposit is refundable so we want to explore our options before the 5th.

To get the best rates for cruises go to www.cruisecompete.com . I'm telling you... it's the best site you'll find. I'm the research Queen when it comes to planning.

On cruisecompete, you submit the cruise you want to go on and travel agents reply to your request for quotes. You'll get anywhere from 2-5 quotes within 1-2 days. I saved over $100 on our cruise we're taking in the fall. However our deposit is NOT refundable under this price.

You'll find that most places sell you the base rate give or take $10. Many sites/agents jack the prices up even more so they can make more $$.

TY.. Actually we have a cruise booked already but we want to reconsider the cruise as 2 of the 4 stops are canceled. We are thinking to just travel to Jamaica, Cayman Islands or St. Thomas.

Some people don't like Jamaica but that's my absolute fave place I've ever stopped at on a cruise. We did Dunns River Falls, White River tubing, and hit the beach. It was amazing.

FYI curiouscat7 (the "certified travel agent" above) sent me a really nasty PM for recommending cruisecompete, although she didn't specify why. She said it was rude... not sure how.... and that I had somehow done something wrong. IMO that's a strike against her reputation. I certainly wouldn't recommend her as an agent LOL.

Think before you act harsh next time. What, did you think I would just crawl under a table because you are so "big and bad"? Puh-lease.

Feel free to elaborate on why my post was so horrible.... I'm a member on cruisecritic.com and it's very often highly recommended and I've never heard anyone advise against it (but then again, you certified travel agents aren't allowed to self-promote on cruisecritic).

Barbados is very nice, but if you are EXTREMELY budget consciuos, it's not the isle for you.

Spent Xmas in Barbados in 2007 and I want to go some place we have no family. I am interested in Montego Bay, My Aunts husband is from Jamaica and told me to make sure I make it to Milk River Bath and Dunns Fall. Budget is really not an issue, when it come to travel u can't be cheap. I want a vacation not having to worry about visiting family..lol

I think we have been to most of the caribbean countries, mainly bc I have family in all of the places we have been. Never been to Jamaica and it would be neat to go to an Island where we know no one and can actually go as tourist and dont have to worry about going to visit family and dont have to worry about people being mad at us if we didnt make it to their homes...lol...I'm sorry if you felt attacked, I appreciated your advise and didnt't think tou were being rude.

Are you planning to go to any Mexican Ports. All the cruiselines have cancelled all stops in Mexico indefinitely.


I booked mine with BJ's Wholesale.   I booked on inside cabin on a low level to secure our spot and upgraded at the last minute to an oceanview for $50.  It was a gamble but worth it.

No we have a cruise booked but with 2 of the 4 ports being canceled we are rethinking.
