cinga/united healthcare/bcbs hmo
Open enrollment is upon us state employees. I am worried that I will not be approved and get surgery before July 1 - bcbs' cut off for coverage. I am going for my cpap study and to the nutritionist next week, and those should be my last hoops, but I am worried bcbs will deny me based on superivised diet - it is all in the way the record reads. Does anyone know if cigna or united healthcare cover wls? I can't locate any info on their sites about exculsions or coverage until I am a member. I don't want to change if it won't help me. Thanks for any help!

Hi Sue Bee,
UHC and Cigna both with be offering it provided your company pays axtra for it, as it will be a rider for Cigna and not for UHC. My suggestion would be for UHC, they DO cover it and is not a rider at all. Who is your employer? As for locating the info, GA. law states they have to offer you the benenfits provided you are at open enrollment and only at that time. Good Luck,
My insurance was Cigna and now is UHC and they are covering it.

I work for Banks Co. Schools. I looked in the UHC provider directory and Dr. Procter is not listed, so I would have to start the whole process over with a new doctor. Who is on the list for UHC? So does my employer have to have a rider with UHC or is it just within the regular coverage? I am going to my nutrition appointment Tuesday, so I am going to talk to someone in the office about the insurance then. Thanks for your help and let me know about the doctors if you can!

I have Cigna & I got approved, it took about 10 months to get approved, they are VERY picky with all the requirements. I was denied my first time, then we appealed it & got denied again. I went to 2nd level appeal & finally got approved. What took me so long was the 6 month supervised weight loss history. I had to wait 6 months & do the weight loss history then we sent the 2nd appeal in & I got approved in 2 weeks.
Don't give up, keep fighting with them. Good luck & if I can help please e-mail me. [email protected]

How did you find out UHC would be covering the surgery and it not be an additional coverage (rider) for State employees. I am a state of ga employee and desperately trying to find out information on someone covering the surgery. I have been told so many different things that it is fursturating.
Thanks for any info.

My husband and I have UHC through Henry County. They covered it, but I do think it could be excluded with UHC depending on the policy. We did have Aetna, and the policy we did have through another company, did not cover it at all. So, I think it just depends on the insurance company as well as the plan. I would go with UHC myself...we have had great luck with them all the way around.

Just wanted to say that my son works for the state of Ga with the prison system and they have United Healthcare. My daughter in law was told it was not a covered procedure. She submitted paperwork and was denied. She is hypertensive, diabetic, and severe sleep apnea. When she went for the sleep study she was put on the c-pap stat as her d sat was 59. I am going to call uhc in the am and see what I can find out. Will let you all know more when I do. Louise
