What to take to hospital???
Hi Kristie,
I'm answering both your posts in this one. I am an Emory patient, but I think it's Dunwoody, the main one in town by the clinics. Dr Smith is my surgeon. I am having corrective surgery from complications from VBG 12 years ago. I am scheduled 9/12 unless they get a big enough opened cancellation before then.
Below I have listed for you what I took with me the first time surgery which I am planning on taking again. I prepare and have things and not need them rather than need something and not have it since we live up in Rome & hubby may not be able to make it when I need something.
I went to Walmart & got travel size of all the things included on our list. The 'bag' contains: Brush & Twisties (I have longer hair); Nail Clippers; Shampoo/Conditioner in one (not Pert but like that); Deodorant; Cotton Swabs; Toothbrush; Toothpaste; Vaseline; Visine Long Lasting; Chapstick; Nightie; Robe & Slippers; Bikini Panties (so they will bee below the cut if he decides to do open surgery); Sweats for the trip home; Sweater (cause I know hospitals can get cold); Allergy Pillow; Baby Powder with Lavender (I tend to chaff); Kleenex; My Own TP (hospital paper tends to be 'scratchy'); Puzzle Books; Book; Magazines; CD Player/CDs; Extra Batteries; Address Book & Calling Card; Journal & 3 Pens ; Small Album with Family Pictures; Clip Board; Meds I Take Now and my Advanced Directive
Not much. A robe, toothbrush and toothpaste are the essentials. Everything else will be something your family has to lug around until you get in a room. I just wore the hospital gowns while I was there and they give you some non-slip socks that are pretty comfy. My hair, which is very short, was a mess, but I just wet it, combed it and kept on walking. I just figured that none of those people would ever see me again, so I didn't worry too much about how I looked. I did think I would leave the hospital after one night and it turns out I stayed for two nights. If you have someone staying with you, have them bring a couple of changes of clothes. Good luck with your surgery! The Emory team was dynamite - and I think the doctors may have been cute, too![The drugs are great, so I may have been hallucinating!]
