Hey Ya'll. I am trying to have some patience wiating for my surgery date, lol I have read about the vitamins we are suppose to take after surgery. Right now I am taking 2 Centrum for kids every day. But what about after surgery? i hear that different doctors tell exactly what to take. But what about Dr. Duncans patients, what do ya'll take? I am going shopping here soon, so I just wanted some suggestions. Hugs!!!!

Kimberly, I am still a Duncan Pre-op patient but they told me at the consult, Multi vitamin (which I will switch to chewable closer to surgery date) Iron (if you still have a cycle) Calcium Citrate and I also started the B12 Sublinguals about 6 weeks ago. I am taking the Prenatal vitamin right now that already has the Iron in it. I was told that walgreens.com carries a brand that has everything you need in 1 chewable (Iron, Calcium, B12, etc) so you might wanna look into that i think it's called Optisource. Hugs, Melissa

Thanks Melissa. I really appreciate your help. I do know that I have to take the iron separate from the other vitamins or it counteracts each other. When you take the B12, does your doctor presribe it monthly? Which is better, the shot or sublinguals? I have a list of things to ask next week when I go for another appointment. but I am an impatient person and want answers now, lol Hugs!

Seeing that I am still pre-op I chose to start taking the B12 Sublingual on my own now, that may change after surgery. I have heard several people say they do better with the Sublingual, some with the shots, I think you'll just have to see which is best for your body. I think they will give you a B12 shot at your 1st post-op visit tho. Best of luck, Melissa

Hi You all, Melissa you are right you will get a b-12 shot at your two week post-op appt. However before that I was taking a liquid form of b-12. They told me I didn't have to take it anymore and either I can go to Dr. Duncans office each month or even my PCP Can give me my b-12 shot . I was even takling to my pharmisist and she says she does it. So I think there are many options for your chooseing.. Dr. Duncans says he wants you to take a multi vitamin but he does recommend Juice Plus but I tried it crushed in powder form and yuck. So I was taking a multi then noe almost a month out I break mine in half I get a another cheaper brand and I take that. And it has'nt botherd me at all. I hope all goes well for you all Kimberly like i said if you need anything let me know. OH how was the trip? ...Love ya Beth

Hey Beth! I have all the info he gave me about how much of each vitamin. But I get easily confused when reading the labels. i know its me making it harder than what I need to do. Thats why I was wondering what everyone was taking and how much. Agggghhh I hate not having my husband here, lol He is so good at these things, lol Anyways, lol...Which trip are you talking about? i have been on the road alot here lately, lol Hugs!!!! Kim

Okay, my doc and nutritionist say that taking calcium and iron at the same time isn't good - they compete for absorption. SO - I take Flinstones w/iron in the morning (2), and then take viactiv chews later in the day (2-3). I take the sublingual B-12, though some people swear by the monthly shots. I guess that's an individual thing. Hope this helps!! Ann in Duluth

Thanks Ann! I knew about the iron. I went shopping last night to get what I need. I bought some liquid multi vitamins for right after my surgery. If I have a hard time with it, i will just go back to my centrum for kids. I also bought some flax seeds, the B Complex sublingual, iron, B12 and some biotin. Now I need to get some calcuim cirate but I couldnt find any in chewable and the pills are HUGE. I will have to keep looking. Thanks for your help. Kimberly
