Other Hospitals in GA- Dr. Duncan only uses AMC
I am approved for Surgery and will probably have it in Feb! YEAH. With Dr. Titus Duncan's or Dr. Hobson. However they use Atlanta Medical Center as there hospital and I haven't read or heard good things about this hospital. Are there other Doctor's out there who practice at Emory, or other Atlanta Hospitals that have better reputations? AMC just seems very old and grubby and in desperate need of a face-lift. However Dr. Duncan's office comes so very highly recommended... am I just being a snob? The other thing that's bothering me is that you aren't going to know who's doing the surgery until that day. Dr. Duncan has more recommendations and more surgeries under his belt for that matter but you aren't guaranteed him.
I was blessed with him as my surgeon, but that is as far as it goes. My hospital stay was s$%^y. I will never step in AMC ever agian. I am going to get my lab work from them and go to the lab around my area. I think you can request Dr. Duncan. Just ask... There is an Emory group but it is like 5 months waiting list. Just have someone with you at night and they can get things for you.

Hiya Laura!
I had my surgery done by Dr. Hobson at AMC and I had the best staff. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The doctors and nurses that I saw before surgery were awesome. Very kind and helped me calm down before the surgery. Afterwards the nurses and the techs were again awesome. They were so helpful and understanding. My parents even commented how how nice everyone was. They even fixed my dad some coffee and brought it to him. The only thing I didnt like was having the helicopter pad right outside my window. BUT the view made up for it more than you know! I slept with the blinds up so I could see the skyline of Atlanta. Not only did the staff keep a close check on me, Dr. Duncan and Dr. S came to visit and to let my family know how everything went and to check on me. Before you make your decsion, go visit the floor at AMC and take a tour, talk to the staff. Now for the lab at the hospital....depends on who you get. I have been there twice, the 1st time wasnt pretty, but the 2nd time, the nurse was great and almost painless. But that can happen at any lab.
I know if I had to do it all over again, I would chose Dr. Duncans practice and AMC. But thats me, only you can make the decision of who and where. Hope this helps.
Hugs!

When I started my WLS journey, I wanted to use Dr. Duncan, as my best friend had used him and AMC. She had done fantastic, and was only in the hospital over night. When I began to investigate surgeons and hospitals, I found that while Dr. Duncan was on my insurances list of surgeons, AMC was not. After further investigation, and comparing sugeons and hospitals, I found Dr. John Daly, and Emory Dunwoody. I am so glad I did, and was so impressed with both. And now I know why they call Emory Dunwoody 'The Ritz'. It was very nice, and the staff was fantastic. I'm constantly raving about both. I can highly reccomend both without hesitation!
Good Luck to you!

Susan
I had an excellent doctor with Dr. Steinberg and Dr. Appel (since retired). They both operated together on me in Decatur at Dekalb Medical Center. I have nothing but high praises for the staff and the hospital. The care was excellent. I even had a private room with a bariatric bed. Lemme tell you those beds are NICE. They inflate and deflate at different spots so you never get a spot where part of you 'falls asleep' from lack of blood flow - and those beds convert into a giant chair for sitting up and walking around! Anyway, I highly recommend my doctors and the hospital for anyone in/near the Atlanta area.
