Welcome to the Georgia Group and congratulations on starting your new Adventure. 55lbs is a great start. I work in Marietta but I live and attend my support groups in the Duluth area, so i can't be of much help in recommending a Marietta Support Group. Keep us posted of your successes.

I have been seeing Dr. Macik since September of last year and am in the process of trying to get approval for VSG.  This guy is the man.  I find him to be a typical surgeon:  that is, a man of few words, but he is very good and thorough when you ask him questions.  His staff is quite good also and is helping me do battle with insurance right now.  I have heard nothing but good things about his surgical skills -- if I hadn't, I wouldn't be pursuing surgery with him!  I think you've made a good choice.

My boyfriend Robert and I were riding on his Harley this past weekend.

Riding the motorcycle is a wow in itself, since I was way too heavy pre-op to ride behind someone. I probably wouldn't have been able to get up on it even if it did hold our combined weight.

So, we are stuck at a traffic light, nd the sensor would not change it from red to green because the weight of the bike was not heavy enough.

A guy pulls behind us in his pickup truck and we wave him around.  We explained to him the bike was too lightweight and urged him to drive around us to make the light change.

He grinned and winked at Robert and in the most sincere redneck twang said "not having too much weight riding behind you is a good thing, she's hot! "  He then pointed at me and drove around.

I was so tickled I almost fell off the bike. I didn't know whether to shout, cry tears of joy, or laugh.  I think I did all of the above at the same time.

Thank God for my DS and for making me a certified biker babe!

Does anyone want to go zip-lining?

OH sisters Maria and Rolanda have expressed an interest.  I am terrified of heights, but I'm willing to test this new body to the limits.

I figure if I plummet to the ground, there will be less of me to make a gooey messy splat now that I'm 175 lbs lighter.

But, then again, that fat may have been a good cushion?

Seriously though, the zip-line has a weight limit of 225 or so. If you are over the limit you can be our cheerleaders and photographers :-)

There are several places to try it. Maria mentioned discounts on Groupon or halfoffdepot.

I haven't looked into all the details. Right now I'm just putting it out there to see who all would like to participate.

Topic: Whitewater Rafting in September anyone?

OK< we tried tubing, now it's time to check out some real rapids!

A friend of mine is planning a whitewater rafting trip in Cleveland TN next month. I just wanted to extend an invite to anyone who would like to join us.

Cost is around $30.

We are doing a picnic lunch afterwards.

The company website is:

I am SO excited to be able to do this kind of stuff. I always wanted to do active stuff pre wls, but just sat on the sidelines and watched the world go by.

           Skinny sure does feel good!

B****he tubing meet n greet in Helen was awesome!  I highly recommend it for a staycation activity with the family. It was $5 well spent.

Topic: RE: Newbie Possibly traveling for DS to Dr. Houston in Nashville
I had my surgery in-state but I remember reading in the insurance handbook in the weight loss surgery section about assitence for the patient and assisting adult if out of state surgery is needed. I would just call your insurance and ask them, my plan is through US Bank and I don't know if its a specific benefit to their plan.

Wow, I didn't know companies had out-of-state WLS benefits; did you have to apply for them, I mean how did you find out that that was part of your plan? I have UHC as well.
