Topic: RE: geraniums
Greetings, I live on the coast of Washington state where we USUALLY have mild winters. I have not had any heat in my greenhouse for 4 years. However, this year I have lost a few plants myself. I always try to have at least 2 of everything. Most of my geraniums are exotic or unusual, I only have about 10 scented varieties. My greenhouse IS my therapy house. I am on full disability from Chronic fatigue syndrome, so, I putter around , nap in my hammock, and enjoy the peace and quiet. (I have a house full of teenagers) I would be happy to exchange either rooted -in the spring- or unrooted cuttings. My email is: [email protected]

Topic: RE: Easter Lillys in Dec
Thankyou for posting! I also had boughten christmas cactus a couple of years go and they just stayed green I knwo they needed more sunshine so I thought this last spring I would put them out on the front porch, and it would be bright and at times early in the am sunny. well we had our first bit of cool weather here in Indiana, so I brought them into the front room, its fairly dark in here and I hadnt gotten around to moving them too the utility where they spent the last 2 years not blooming. Well lo and behold they were just bursting with buds and the blooms were absolutly beautiful, but they bloomed for Thanksgiving, so now there Thansgiving cactus:0). So I got to thnking, with the Easter lilly, I will put it in semi darkness the first of march for about 1 month and only lightly water and see if I can force it to bloom for Easter. I know this is how it is done for poinsettias (sp). Merry Christmas to you both, and maybe we can share some of our gardening experiances! Rosemary

Greetings, I had just about concluded that this chat room had gone beyond dormancy!!! A flicker of life at last! It is nice to see someone resurrect an Easter lily. My experience has been that it is fairly easy to get them to bloom again. The TRICKY part is to get them to bloom for Easter.

What a nice surprise Rosemary. Don't you just love the smell of Easter Lillys? I don't know much about lillys but was at a huge garden show last February in Seattle. I bought a Star Lilly bulb which was at least as big as my fist and planted it. The plant grew to almost 7 feet and produced a few beautiful white fragrant lillys. It looked a little funny just having one plant but was the biggest lilly stalk that I have ever seen. I am anxious to see if it increases in size this year. These specialty boards are a bit lonely aren't they? I am on a few but most rarely have posts. Therefore, I thought that I would at least reply to yours. Happy Holidays Rosemary, Susan Frank

wow its lonley in this chat room, I had gotten an easter lilly last easter of course and it died and I tossed it aside and last month I was going to finally throw it away(the pot and dirt), and I noticed little green shoots comming up so I brought it inside and placed it in a bright sunny area with some other plants and with in 1 month it has 3 shoots 3 inches tall each and 1 little new green shoot just comming up. I was supposed to plant it in the garden last spring but I had my surgery and never got around to it, so I will nurse this plant and watch it bloom in time for my 1 year anniversary. I think I will try to keep this alive for many years if possible. I enjoy growing house plants and gardening.
