Galbladder and RNY

I went for my pre-op at the hospital today. I have lost 10 lbs since last Tuesday on this diet. I have also grown an inch. when the tech was getting my height she said you are 6'4", I said no I have always been 6'3" she said I am showing you as 6'4" she said must be the heal on your shoe, I had loafers on maybe 1/4" so maybe I have gone an inch over the last 20 years since I have been measured.

I also Found out they are  taking my gal bladder out Tuesday when they do my RNY. I knew it was a possibility if they ultrasound showed any problems with it. I never asked just thought since I did not hear other wise it was fine. The nurse said today no the ultra sound showed it needed to come out. That is fine with me, while you are in there go ahead and take it out and save me a trip at a later date. I was just wondering how this works with the healing from the surgery. I have not seen any post on this. Thanks for the help!

Well I think I wish I could have done both now when I think about it.  I had my gall bladder out and later my lap band.  I think this will be a good thing for you!  Don't be worried!~Ann~

luckily they are both usually laparoscopic procedures so they can do it all through the same ports once they get in there.  they left mine in even though i have a ton of stones, they aren't bothering me so they opted not to take it out.  i don't think you have anything to worry about.......when you get to full liquids, make sure you take note of how you do with dairy products....you may become lactose intolerant.

Taking the gall bladder out at the same time is becoming a common practice as they tend to crap out after this type of surgery. I had my gall bladder removed at 20, but if I would have still had it, it would have come out during my RNY. You won't notice a thing. Best of luck to you on your pending operation and for growing a whole inch! I'm 5' 4". I'd love another inch...so if you get sick of your extra one, send it my way.

Having your gallbladder out at the same time as your RNY will not affect your surgery or recovery in any negative way.  I WILL save you from having to have it out in 3, 4, 5, 6 months.  I had mine out 5 months after my RNY.

Recover from the gall bladder was harsh for me but I was allergic to the suture material. Once that was off me I was feeling great. Good luck on Tuesday!

I am having the lap band on 11-06-2008 and they are taking out my gall bladder at the same time.  I have been having problems with it for a long time so I am glad they are going to do it together. Good luck with your surgery.

At my first appointment with my surgeon, he said because I have gallstones, my gallbladder needed to be taken out. He said because of me having 3 c-section, that he'll take out my gallbladder before surgery due to the extra scar tissue from the c-sections. I had an ultrasound on the 7th of this month, and it showed a stone in my gallbladder. I got a letter last week telling me that my gallbladder surgery is scheduled for the 28th, and my pre-admission testing is scheduled for tomorrow. The weird thing is..I haven't even been approved for WL surgery. That won't happen till my supervised dieting is done in February.....

Good luck to you though Jeff. I'll be thinking about you...*hugs*
