I'm Baaaaaccckkkk!!!!
Hello All,
I see Allie updated everyone. I am so glad I did this. Friday was pure hell. I was in so much pain. I had 2 back operations previously. One being a spinal fusion with all the plates and screws..ect..ect. from L4-5 to S1. Anyway, i think they positioned me very flat on the OR table, so when I woke up, I not only had the abdominal thing going on, I also had severe back pain, along with the gas....I felt like I stepped in front of a train and lived. I could not use the drip because it made me nauseated, even with the Zofran.
But then Saturday came, and it was a new day....I was not in half as much pain.
Interesting thing is that I have a fasting glucose test every year faithfully. It has always been in the high 80's, which is good....Well after surgery, they had me on an insulin pump for the first 2 days. They said my glucose was 275 and they had to bring it down.....Well of course they called in an endocrinologist, and he said my preadmit testing showed my sugar level over the past 3 months was 1 point from being diabetic......I was like OMG, I didn't know. He said my fasting glucose could very well show 80's, but when the stress of the day comes on, and I eat, and stuff like that, It could go up and I guess it did.....BUT, with the RNY, he said it should resolve itself, and I will be fine. The insulin drip got me down to between 110-117, and he said that is good, no additional meds needed now.
I got up and walked almost every hour while awake, and since I work for the bariatric program, everyone took extra special care. I got a huge private room with a beautiful view.
I know all the staff, but protocol is to ask each patient their name and date of birth when giving meds or drawing blood...so even though they know who I am, they would ask me anyway.......I kept saying Halle Berry ......It was pretty funny at the time.
Anyway, I managed to lose 6 pounds since Friday. So MOOOOOOOVE over, I need a spot on the bench now.
Ps...My wife writes so much more eloquently than I do, but as always, she put my feelings in perfect words. Thank you guys for everything. You make this so much easier to go through and I know this is only one step in many, and trust me I will keep looking to you all for support.

Welcome to the loser's bench, Maria. I'm glad your surgery went well, and that your pain is already starting to become more manageable. As I'm sure you know, the first few weeks are the toughest, but it gets much better really fast. So for now sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk, and keep us updated on how you are doing!!!
