We're getting married
OH GLBT Friends,
I am posting my latest personal blog entry to this board. I wanted to share that Brett and I are getting married in Seotember. I wanted friends like you to hear hte news.
Tom (and Brett)
-------------------------------
On Saturday morning I popped the big question and asked Brett to marry me. Shocked and stunned… he said “Yes"! After 20 years, I figured it was time to validate our relationship. Brett has wanted to get married for many years. I have wanted to wait on the ELCA to allow civil unions. With the recent election, slow progress in the Church and the defeat of Prop 8 in California, I felt the time had come to get married. I decided that if we are going to do it, we should do it in the most legal method possible. We are getting married in Provincetown, Massachusetts in September 2009 with a small group of friends present. Massachusetts now allows same sex couples from other states to wed. It carries the same weight and benefits of heterosexual couples in the state. For us, it will not be legal in Ohio. For us, it is the public announcement of our love and commitment to each others. I believe marriage is an institution to uphold. We enter into it with promises of love for one another other for the rest of our lives. We look forward to the autumn wedding in Massachusetts and our 20th anniversary November reception back in Ohio.
