I am scheduled for surgery in one week and I am getting sick.

I have been sneezing all day and now I have a sore throat.

What do I do? I cant sleep as I am woried.

I was supposed to call my primary care physician to get clearance today.

Do I tell him? I dont want to get the surgery rescheduled. I have waited a long time for this and my mom already bought a plane ticket to come visit me and I scheduled my leave of absence from work.

I will probably be better by next  Monday so not sure what to do.

Maybe my PCP could give me  a Z pack and knock iit out of me if I have an infection but I am scared to tell him if he wont clear me.

Suggestions?

Kevin

I would go to your pcp and get some antibiotics or whatever other medicine you may need. Let him and your surgeon know whats up. IDK but maybe a cold or throat infection may effect your recovery. And you don't want that.

Definitely go to the PCP.  And if worse comes to worse and they have to delay, then that's what you have to do.  You need to be ready and able to have the surgery.  And what's a little while longer when you've been waiting this long?

Get better,

Cheers,

HI,

I would tell your PCP. That way you can get some treatment started and perhaps get rid of whatever you have by your scheduled surgery date. If your cold progresses and becomes worse, you run a lot higher risk of being rescheduled because especially if you have a cough, it increases your risk of post-operative pulmonary complications, ie, bronchospasm, pneumonia.

Good luck and I hope it goes away soon!!!

Ok, I listened.

I called my PCP and I have an appt for tomorrow.

I also called the surgeon and they said it should not be a big deal as I have a week to knock it out of my system.

I woke up stuffy today and it is definitely a cold so I am sure it will be gone in a week.

Hopefully my PCP will give me clearance for surgery when I see him tomorrow.

Thanks again for your support and advice everyone!

Kevin

My sore thought started after the attendant said about the need to postpone the surgery if i get a cold or something like that. Pure psychological sore thought on my case. To be sure I started on the antibiotics, i will suspend today and hope for the best..

I had a bad cold right before surgery. Lots of rest, fluids, echanatia (can't spell it and it's not in spell check.), and drugs should knock it out in the next week.

Good luck!

Good on you.  Remember that these rules are in place for a reason.

Trust me...you don't want to be coughing a lot after you have surgery on your stomach.  You just don't.  Ouchie.
