Dr. Rudolph Weiner Patients
I know it has been a while since this post was started but I thought I would write a little bit anyways.
I am new to Germany and also a newbie at getting this whole WLS issue going. I have an appointment at the clinic tomorrow to see if I can get this surgery done. I have a BMI of 43 and a few minor health problems. I am EXTREMELY nervous about having this surgery done and consider myself well informed. My question is... are you able to request whom you want your surgery done by? I am going to request Dr. Weiner because of all the superior comments I have read about him. Please feel free to e-mail me and I will be sure to keep you all updated on my progress. You all are a wonderful inspiration to me.
Jennifer

I was just approved through TriCare myself..my surgery date is Feb. 13th but I'm going to Landstuhl hospital to see Dr. Schultz at St. Johanis. I didn't want to travel to Frankfurt for this surgey because it will be difficult for my husband to go back and forth with my kids in school and all. Be patient with TriCare, I was first seen by my doctor who sent in the referral to tricare for me to go off base. When I did go and see Dr. Schultz on Dec. 14th he said yes I needed it. My BMI is 42 but I have some other health issues as well. It took from Dec 14th until Jan. 8th for it all to be final with my surgery date. I wish you all the best, my husband is also Military but we are Air Force. I know what your going through with your husband not understanding. Mine is not understanding either and is giving me the feeling he is either jealous or just not supporting my decision. I have great friends who support me and I have 2 friends who have had the surgery, one went to Dr. Weiner in Frankfurt and the other to Dr. Schultz in Landstuhl where I'm going. Email me anytime and we can chat and exchange notes. Take care and I will pray you hear soon for your date.
I still do not have a date for my initial visit with a surgeon but I should find out this week (hopefully!) I can totally understand your issue with not wanting to travel so far. I have kiddos as well and my husband and I were trying to figure out how we are going to do this with them in school. I have no idea who they are going to send me to, but I think that where ever they decide will be fine with me. We are very close to Landstuhl so that would be good. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Please keep me informed and add me to your friends list if you wish. Good luck!
We are USAF and moving to Stuttgart in sept. I am trying to figure out if anyone has gone through this process from stuttgart and how hard is it? My current base can not do referrals at this time due to budgets but i already know from my pcm that im a good candidate with a BMI of 50 and other back /leg issues. but i am unsure of the process over in germany. any info would be wonderful for me I am trying to get as much info as i can before i get there to start the process as soon as i can after we get settled.
Thank you

Hi Terri,
We are currently stationed in Baumholder and are Army. The first step you need to take is go and see your PCM about a referral. Make sure you have all of your documentation about previous diets and health issues you are experiencing. It was very easy to get my referral but with you being on the Air Force side of things it may be different for you. You also may want to speak with your patient laision about the referral process since everything passes through them as far as off post appointments go. Even if they are telling you that you are unable to have a referral, bug the heck out of them until you can get one. It only took me a total of 2 months to get all of my appointments done and have a date for surgery (March 6th). I know I called about every other day and I am sure they were very tired of hearing my voice. I wish you the best of luck and you can feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I would love to help you out if I can.
