Hi Jackie. (and Sabine...how did the finals go since you chose to study instead of coming to support group...LOL) The stay in the hospital will be easy. Don't get nervous over it. I had no problems with any of the staff although not all of them speak English. They do their best to understand what you are wanting and will go find someone who does speak english if they need to. They have a lot of English speaking patients so there is always someone on duty who does speak it. I had my surgery over 2 years ago. I'm 130 pounds lighter than I was then!! Problems....well, I found that I have more problems with vomiting now that I'm further out. I believe (and Prof Weiner agreed with me) that it's because we get lax about chewing, eating slowly and not taking that one extra bite. I never really had any problems with the surgery at all. I can eat anything (not necessarily a good thing since that includes sugar and carbs). If you follow Prof Weiner's advice and his protocol for eating, you should be fine. When I had my surgery, he was having his patients do 4 weeks of full liquids and then we could eat regular food. I believe that has changed now to the stages...liquid, puree, soft, reg. Just don't try to hurry your body too much and give yourself time to heal.

I have a surgery date ---06/28/2006--. Today was my evaluation and I feel pretty confident about the surgery. Dr. Weiner described that my stay at the hospital -post-op- will more likely be a hotel stay. He encourages that I get up and get out... walk around the neighborhood; enjoy the sights. I was surprised that the hospital is right next to the Rhine River... Anyway... he touched on the liquid diet and that be the only challenge I expect to face. So I am training my mind to realize that the liquid diet is the answer to better healing. Hey, thanks for you thoughts... keep me posted and as questions come my way... I'll throw them your way. Tschuss!

Congrats on your surgery date. Did he tell you to do the liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery? I had to do the same thing. The next 4 weeks will go by fast, it will be here before you know it. Let me know if you have any questions about the surgery or the hospital stay. Stacey

Hi Carmen, I'm a new lap band patient. The first four weeks I've been told liquid, puree and soft. So far so good but I'm just 9 days post op. I've been eating two tablespoons pasta w/ 8oz broth and 1/2 cup creamed cottage cheese or two tablespoons baby food meat (I pulverized shrimp tonight). Are you a band girl?

Hi Lynelle. Nope, I had the bypass surgery. Sounds like you are doing pretty well on the diet tho. I don't know much about the lap band and the diet that goes with it. For the bypass, I had 4 weeks of full liquids and then I could eat anything (within reason LOL) Bypass patients have to limit their carbs and aren't suppose to have sugar. Both of those are suppose to make us sick....some do get sick, I don't. I do know that with the band you won't have the mal-absorbtion issues that we bypassers do. I see you are eating pasta. For a quicker weight loss limit your carbs or make sure you are only using whole grain carbs. Anything white is super processed and truly not good for you.
