I was approved for the surgery 2 years ago. Went to Frankfurt got surgery date and then 2 days later I was told that. tricare changed there rules and I had to have 6 months of recorded diet and exercise ( through the gym on base) and a mental health approval. Before I could have it done! My bmi is 42... any suggestion. Julie

I would just do as they say I had to go through this same thing . It depends on your base . If your base has these classes set up then you have to go but if they don't offer the service then your tricare liason can get you a waiver of some sort . I am at spangdahlem germany . It took me about five months to do everything which was okay . At first I was up set because friends of mine who had it done here didn't have to go through all of the red tape . But the class was informative as a matter of fact after my surgery in July I will be heading back to the class again ,for a refresher . Feel free to email me if you have any questions \\ michelle

Well that's the first I have heard of them requiring a 6 month diet and exercise. My consult in Frankfurt is Monday. If they say you have to do it, and your base offers that than you will have to... As for the mental health, that has always been a requirement. Call Mental Health on your base and make an appointment. I was able to have mine done within a week of my phone call. Good luck to you..

You got your surgery date 15 days after your consult thats good. I go for my consult on the 16 of July. I hope to have the surgery the end of july. My mental health eval went fine and I go wednesday to see my PCM and pick up my paper work from tricare. Good luck to you

I did not have to do that at all. I was referred by my PCM, saw the nutritionist, the psychologist and the surgeon. Within 10 days, I had my approval. I would definitely speak with your Tricare representative and inquire about this. Kelly
