I have my initial appt. with him on 14 April. I am neverous and excited at the same time. I went to his website and printed them and filled out the forms. Does having consultation mean having the procedure or how does that work. Does Tricare turn you down if the Dr. feels you need it? I just don't want to get my hopes up to have the rug yanked out. Also how long after the appt. is surgery schedule? Anything else I need for the initial appt? I want to have this WLS I am afraid to hope until I have a surgery date. Thanks Neala

Hello, You are in great hands! Prof. Weiner is the best! I had my surgery 2 months ago. The initial consultation is kinda a joke. I wasn't examinied, just talked about the surgery. He will assume that you already know you want the surgery so it's not like he will say no. All you do it talk to him for a few minutes about what to expect and how he does the surgery, that's all! I was so nervous about my consult but it was only like 15 minutes. As far as Tricare, I was told by the Tricare woman at my base (Spangdahlem) that once you are approved for the initial consult, that you will be approved for the surgery sine they use the same requirements. They used to make you get only one approval for the surgery and consult but the surgeon wan't getting paid for the consult so they made it so you have to get seperate approvals. Plus when you fill out your paperwork, be sure to note any pain you have due to weight, like in your knees, feet, hips or whatever. My surgery was scheduled 6 weeks after the consult but it was around Christmas. My friend had her surgery 3-4 weeks after the consult. E-mail me if you have anymore questions. I can call you too if you want. GOOD LUCK!

I am going to see Prof Weiner for my initial appointment on the 14th as well. My appointment is at 9:45am. I am really hoping to have my surgery in around 4 weeks or earlier if that is an option. I have been going through all the motions of meeting tricares requirements for 6 months now. I am really excited to finally be going to the surgeon. Good Luck!

If Prof. Weiner says you need they surgery I was told by a TriCare HBA that you will be approved. Especially since you already did all the other requirements that they had. I had my surgery on Thanksgiving day and have lost 91 pounds. It was the best thing I could have done for myself. He is a very skilled surgeon and knows his stuff.

I had my consult at Dr. W's office on Monday, September 22 and was told by tricare on Friday, September 26th that my surgery date is October 15-- Yippeee! I thought I was going to have to wait for 6-8 weeks. I am so excited and have heard nothing but great things about Dr. W.
