guten tag
I was an exchange student in West Germany 1984-85 school year and I did not see many over weight German's. I think they know the secret - -exercise - - and portion control and just eating healthier.
When I was there, we ate at the table together - - at home, and not at all the restaurants like we do in the States. When food is prepared at home, you know what goes into it. When the restaurants fix it - - they want it to taste good - - however much they must put in it extra.
When I was there, we rode bikes, walked - - did more sports, had basically more exercise scheduled into our daily routine. In the States -- everyone seems to busy that exercise and slowing down long enough to eat a healthy meal and actually enjoy it seems like a challenge.
We can learn a lot from taking the time for family, to eat together at home, and not depend on fast food, cars, etc. all the time.
Hi There, Not to sure where in Germany you were. Cause I have seen alot of Germans over weight. My sister that lives in Germany and is German, me that was born in germany to german parents. cousins, Aunts, uncles, friends and on. my niece and nephue had the lap band. And I just had the by-pass. By the way the lap band in Germany only costs 5,000 eur.
Well I have lived in Germany for 2 yrs and I have seen quite a few overweight Germans. Obesity is not just an American problem......I just think we are more successful at making it easy to get that way!!! McDonalds, Burger King, and the billion other fastfood places that line the streets we drive every day. But the problem is definately universal. Tchoos!
