Topic: Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy with Tricare?
I am looking up info. on the VSG and somethings I read sound like we can get it done and covered while other things say the opposite. Is there anyone over here that has had this surgery? I would probably be looking at a surgeon around Landstuhl since we are up in Baumholder. I knew that the lapband wasn't covered, but when I discovered the VSG info. I realized there was another option to the RNY that maybe i could do. I have had previous abdominal surgeries (4 in total) and do not want to do the RNY. I am about 290 pounds, have sleep apnea, prediabetic, high bp, on depression meds, go to counseling regularly, have had knee surgeries when I was a teen and have more problems with them now (age 40). I would love to be able ot move around much better and be healthier, so any info. I can get on this being an option over here would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations Terri! Are you seeing Prof. Weiner?
I know I was talking with the TriCare Reps before I went in for my surgery and they said they are going to start making the people around the Stuttgart area see a Doctor closer. I am very happy with how my surgery went with Prof. Weiner. He is very good! Remember I am here on Patch if you need anything!

Hello Judy,
No problem. I am also sometimes behind in my responses. I think you had lots of other things to think about after surgery. I'm still in the process of trying to get my insurance folks onboard. Turned me down the first time, Dr. Weiners staff re-did the request for pre approval and it's now with CIGNA. I've been having some attitude problems with Dr. Weiners staff. Rude, billing issues, pushy. But he's the best I hear. I need a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I"m 280 lbs, 5'10" and it's gotta come off. You sound like you are through the worst based on the need for tucks and reductions. Sounds like it's skin that's getting in your way instead of fat. How much have you lost, how much to go? I'm going to try and get 100 lbs off. FYI - I'm 53, married, live in Kiedrich on the Rhein River, 2 stepsons (out of college now). Cheers, Bill Black
Topic: RE: Dr Schultz
Hey Shawanna,
I had my surgery with Dr Schultz just under 3 months ago. When I had my consult with him. He seemed kinda jerky at the appointment. The way he acted made me feel like I wouldnt get the surgery. I was wrong about that. But come to find out. Dr Schultz is a pretty down to earth guy. Hes a bit ****y, but thats ok with me( I like that in a person). He is very good at what he does. He has much sucess with this surgery. I know of 4 people that had the surgery with him, and all are doing great. Hell, im doing gerat myself.
Also, I searched up and down on the internet for info about Dr S. Couldnt find a thing about him. And I know hes not registered on this site. Its all about word of mouth.
Just know that you are going to a great surgen..Good Luck on the 3rd. Let us know how it went.

I am so happy for you. Which dr is going to be doing your surgery.
It turns out that I am going to Dr Schultz instead of Dr Weiner. He is only 35 min instead of 1hr 45 min away.
