Topic: RE: Question about Protien Drinks/Shakes
Dear Becky: Protein drinks that we like are a difficult thing to find, but not impossible. Our commissaries carry an already made protein drink in both vanilla and chocolate (I like the vanilla one) called Advant EDGE-carb control. It has 17 g of protein for 110 calories. They come in packages of 4 for some $5.00. It has zero sugar, that is an important thing to check when buying protein drinks or bars. They are usually by the Slim Fast drinks aile. I have tried the carb control Slim Fast and I am not a total fan of the chalkie taste, but it is another alternative. Make sure that it is the carb control, if not, it will have too much sugar! I use the AdvantEDGE on trips, or to take to work for breakfast, when I don't have time to do the powder protein drinks, etc. When I have gone to visit friends in Lakenheath, they also buy them for me for breakfast and I don't have to trouble anyone making me special food. I drink mine while they are eating their pancakes and their scones! It is quite filling and I like the taste. If the taste is ever a problem with protein drinks, try adding the DaVinci SUGAR FREE syrups that are found in our commissaries too. They are usually by the coffee aisle. We have caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, etc in Bitburg....so I imaging than in any other bigger store thay could even have more flavors!! My everyday breakfast includes a protein drink made from powder. I buy in the BX the Designer Whey- Vanilla flavor ($9. a container) and mix it with the Zero carb-Isopure Cappucino latte flavor that I get on line. It is soooo good!!! I sometimes add the syrups too (sugar free) to change the flavor of it. I buy many of the DaVici flavors on line, (praline, toasted marshmellow, macademian nuts, frech vanilla, dulce de leche, etc...) Hope this helps! Brenda

Topic: RE: Help! 1st Appointment Dr Weiner
Dear Terri: Congratulations! I will be going to Dr. Weiner on Nov. 20th for my one year check up. I have lost 140 pounds and today I know that it was the best decision I have ever made. I was very nervous for my first appointmnet, and it really lasted just some 10-15 minutes. I came driving from Bitburg (also 2 hours away) but once I met him, all my nervousness wnt away. I came with a written list of questions for him and he answered them all. I will also recommend to bring your own pillow(s) for the surgery/hospital stay. Bottle water (I added Crystal Light) to mine for flavor is a very good idea to bring too. Bring towels, a bathrobe, a cell phone, and books or magazines. The people in th ehospital couldn't be any nicer!!! Good luck in your great new life! Brenda

Protien shakes have been torture on me- even the protein water. The best think I have found so far is Muscle Milk-the already made shakes not the tub you make yourself. It has 23 g of protien and yes, is a bit thicker than I'd like, its still the only think I can drink without buckling over in pain! I feel like a jack@ss because I spent ALOT of money buying protein shakes in advance and I had to give it all away. If you find something else please let me know. Ugh I wish they made protien easy to take- like a pill

You have nothing to worry about- Dr Weiner is top in his field, once listed as the fore father of the gastric, he even goes to the states to train surgeons on it. So you really are in good hands. My surgery has been a great success - I'm 6 months out and have almost hit the century mark. There is a lot you need to know prior to surgery that they wont tell you about- nothing major, just some basic info. Just let me know if you want details, I'll be sure to pass on the secrets to you- I was blessed to have had someone do the same for me. Stac

Topic: RE: Help! 1st Appointment Dr Weiner
HI- I had my surgery with Proff.Weiner on Aug 2. He is great!! My first appt. was pretty quick and he just asked about my health problems and my weight history. I also had a long questionare to answer. After that he made my appt for my surgery for one month later pending tricare approval. I was quite shocked that is was so easy. I also never saw a dietician or psych. I guess it just depends on your PCM on what you have to do. As for the surgery, bring comfy pjs, a robe, and slippers (I used flip-flops). The first day is drinking a gallon of this stuff to clean you out, and trust me it will. Eat your favorite meal the day before . They will also do all the tests that day. Surgery the second day. You will be in pain (not too bad) and very tired the first day after surgery. Bring your own water if your picky abou****er. They do have regular water which was fine for me but alot of other people didn't like it. Bring something to do for the last couple of days. I brought a book and a laptop. If you need a fan bring your own, they only had a few. I am sure there is more so if you have more questions you can email me [email protected] Good luck!! Michelle
