Hi Cheri,
I have lived in Germany for about 7yrs and love it. I have my surgery scheduled for February 13th, 2007. I'm nervous but I'm sure everything will be fine. I love the doctor I"m going to and the hospital is great. I have been in the hospital before in Landstuhl and they are wonderful. You had your surgery when?? How are things going with you?

I still do not have a date for my initial visit with a surgeon but I should find out this week (hopefully!) I can totally understand your issue with not wanting to travel so far. I have kiddos as well and my husband and I were trying to figure out how we are going to do this with them in school. I have no idea who they are going to send me to, but I think that where ever they decide will be fine with me. We are very close to Landstuhl so that would be good. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Please keep me informed and add me to your friends list if you wish. Good luck!

I was just approved through TriCare myself..my surgery date is Feb. 13th but I'm going to Landstuhl hospital to see Dr. Schultz at St. Johanis. I didn't want to travel to Frankfurt for this surgey because it will be difficult for my husband to go back and forth with my kids in school and all. Be patient with TriCare, I was first seen by my doctor who sent in the referral to tricare for me to go off base. When I did go and see Dr. Schultz on Dec. 14th he said yes I needed it. My BMI is 42 but I have some other health issues as well. It took from Dec 14th until Jan. 8th for it all to be final with my surgery date. I wish you all the best, my husband is also Military but we are Air Force. I know what your going through with your husband not understanding. Mine is not understanding either and is giving me the feeling he is either jealous or just not supporting my decision. I have great friends who support me and I have 2 friends who have had the surgery, one went to Dr. Weiner in Frankfurt and the other to Dr. Schultz in Landstuhl where I'm going. Email me anytime and we can chat and exchange notes. Take care and I will pray you hear soon for your date.
Topic: RE: ON MY WAY TO GERMANY IN MARCH
Hello, I'm in Germany and would like to get to know you. We have lived here going on 7 years now and love it. Do you know where in Germany your coming? Are you military?

I know it has been a while since this post was started but I thought I would write a little bit anyways.
I am new to Germany and also a newbie at getting this whole WLS issue going. I have an appointment at the clinic tomorrow to see if I can get this surgery done. I have a BMI of 43 and a few minor health problems. I am EXTREMELY nervous about having this surgery done and consider myself well informed. My question is... are you able to request whom you want your surgery done by? I am going to request Dr. Weiner because of all the superior comments I have read about him. Please feel free to e-mail me and I will be sure to keep you all updated on my progress. You all are a wonderful inspiration to me.

Hi Cheri,
I too am pretty new to Germany. We moved here (Baumholder) in August. I can't say that I like it here at all and I have varying bouts of homesickness depending on the day you ask me. I am also a military wife and am looking for some support about WLS. I actually have my appointment tomorrow at the clinic to see if I am able to get this surgery done. I have a BMI of 43 and a few minor health problems so I am hoping this will be enough to qualify me. I was approved to have a consult before I moved to Germany but the surgeon said that I didn't have enough time to get the surgery done before I left. My hopes are high and I hope everything goes alright tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Hi Cheri,
I am SO sorry that I didn't respond to your message. I don't know why I didn't get an email telling me that I had a message waiting but I had not checked this board in over a month. My sincerest apologies! I sent you a message back, though, but I don't know if you received it.
Hope all is going well!
Melissa
