Topic: RE: Anyone in Bitburg?
Hi!! Just found this forum today! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. How awesome for you! We are stationed in Wiesbaden. I have only been here since the end of Sept so trying to adjust. I had RNY 6/03. Have done pretty well but the last year has been tough and have had a regain of 18#. I am back on track and working hard on the "head hunger" I would love to be a "support" for you. Tell me all about your upcoming surgery. Where is it going to be? Hope to hear back soon. Take care

Topic: RE: any support for us Military wives in Germany?
Hi.
I'm a military wife living in Naples, Italy and am going in to get a referral this week. I would like to know if there are any "secret" words I need to say to my doc to get the referral. I am 6'2 and 305lbs. I have problems with my knees and suffer from syncope which may be related to my obesity. I also suffer from fatigue and headaches, and recently acid reflux and heartburn. Should I mention all of these things? I know Tricare will pay for the surgery. I checked and there is only 1 Tricare approved bar. surgeon in Italy and he is in Pisa. I think they would medevac me to the Landstuhl/Frankfurt area where there are two.
Any information that you have that would help me out would be great!
Thanks,
Cynda
Topic: Hi from Frankfurt!
Hello everybody!
I'm new to the Frankfurt area and am looking to have a revision done asap. (suppose I should make the first appointment, huh? LOL)
Just thought I would say, "Hi" before I have to leave for school. I'm taking a German language course here in Frankfurt. My poor brain!
I will post more, later, about my first wls and why I need a revision. Looks like Dr. Weiner is the person to see, though!

Topic: Where is the safest, cash price ps?
I live in the US but I heard it would be cheaper to travel to a foreign country, pay cash for a lower body lift, recover and come home as opposed to cash price in the US. Safety is my primary concern and then price.
Topic: RE: Lets all get together!!!
Danielle, is this still on for 16th of Sept? I have it on my calendar?
Are you and I still on for lunch this coming Friday in Hanau, or are you coming to Wiesbaden anytime soon??
Topic: RE: Lap Band Vs RNY
I also live in Germany and had a lap band put in in 1997 (Prof. Dr. Weiner)
I couldnt eat anything but soups so I lost 70 pounds in about a year.In 1998 I had to have surgery again because my stomach slipped out of the pouch and then I slowly started to gain everything back.....YO YO effect WITH band! I kept getting sicker...sleep apnea, Diabetes, just had a heart attack 4 months sgao and since 3 weeks I am also on an oxygen machine. I went to see the Prof. again (he is one of the best doctors in the world) and he said that I should get the RNY or else I wont live my longer. I am only 44 years old and the single Mom of an 11 year old boy. He was sitting next to me when the Prof. told me this. I am soooo very scraed but I have no choice!
Where do you live? I live near Darmstadt....
Topic: RE: Lap Band Vs RNY
Hi there,
I had rny because I was told it was the 'gold standard' of WLS. I really wanted something that was really going to work for the rest of my life. I felt that I could get around the lapband, by eating sweets and greasy foods. You can't with RNY!! And taking vitamins is really no big deal, its worth it!!
Let me know how you do,
Jackie
Topic: RE: plastics questions
NO, it is not true. Get an appointment for yourself with your doc. tell him the prob you are having. If he feels it is somthing you need he will refer you to a doc. It may be a german doc or American, then after you see that doc you will turn your paperwork into tri-care and they will either approve you or not. This is what a friend of mine just did. She has surg the 16th of Sept.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Danielle
We are trying to get together a cookout for all of us in Hanau on the 16th of Sept. Please let me know if you are interested....and if you know other poeple who would want to come.
