Hi My name is Stacey. We live in Mannheim. I just had my surgery on 11 May with Prof Weiner. I am very pleased with him as a surgeon and would recommend him highly. Let me know if I can answer any questions about him for anyone.
I do not know of any support groups in my area. But I hear that k-town has a great one.
It is nice to see some others here.

Topic: Hi Jackie. (and Sab...
Hi Jackie. (and Sabine...how did the finals go since you chose to study instead of coming to support group...LOL) The stay in the hospital will be easy. Don't get nervous over it. I had no problems with any of the staff although not all of them speak English. They do their best to understand what you are wanting and will go find someone who does speak english if they need to. They have a lot of English speaking patients so there is always someone on duty who does speak it.
I had my surgery over 2 years ago. I'm 130 pounds lighter than I was then!! Problems....well, I found that I have more problems with vomiting now that I'm further out. I believe (and Prof Weiner agreed with me) that it's because we get lax about chewing, eating slowly and not taking that one extra bite. I never really had any problems with the surgery at all. I can eat anything (not necessarily a good thing since that includes sugar and carbs). If you follow Prof Weiner's advice and his protocol for eating, you should be fine.
When I had my surgery, he was having his patients do 4 weeks of full liquids and then we could eat regular food. I believe that has changed now to the stages...liquid, puree, soft, reg. Just don't try to hurry your body too much and give yourself time to heal.

OK here we go
Please help me to the bathromm - Bitte helfen sie mir auf die Tolette ( is toilet) or - bitte helfen sie mir ins bad ( is Bathroom)
I am in Pain - Ich habe Schmerzen
I have pain here ( and point where you have the pain ) Ich habe Schmerzen hier
Viele Schmerzen - a lot pain
Ein wennig Schmerzen - Not to much pain
let say a scale from one to five
1-keine SChmerzen ( no Peain)
2- Unangenhem ( uncomfortable)
3- Kaum Schmerzen ( Mild Pain )
4- Viele Schmerzen ( much Pain)
5 sehr viele Schmerzen ( really bad pain)
hope it help a bit.
I'd would like a pain medication- Ich heatter gerne was gegen die Schmerzen or you can say - Ich heatter gerne eine Schmerztablette
Lol so that should cover your Pain. You won't have a lot though. There first days you will get a painpump. There going to put the button right in your hand and you can pu**** when ever you need it. There tooked my away 1 day after surgery I did not need it no more and it made me sick in the stomach.
When you need some to slepp say - Ich heatter gerne was zum schlafen or Ich heatter gerne eine SChlaftablette.
But like I said if you point to what you want you should be fine. Maybe if you need your IV change you can say that die infusion is zu ende Means the IV is done. But there give you Pain medicartion once a day for breakfast as soon you can eat and drink again. And til then there give you the Pain killer over the IV . I did not felt any pain just really uncomfortable becasue of the 2 tubes. I had my gallbladder removed too so I had 2 tubes. But that was the only thing taht really was uncomfortable becasue you don't know how to lie down for the first 2 nights. Well the first night I was so knocked out anyway. And My underbody ( womb area ) was hurting the first night after surgery. I don't know why but I did not felt it thaat much the first night you spen in the ICU and you have the Pain pump in your hand . I was sleeping all day in the ICU. Really all day. From when I got out the surgery till about 10.00 am the next day. I woke up every 30 min for about 1 min and I was gone again. Is really quiete and dark down there . What makes you have a godd sleep. when there came the next day I felt like I can not get up and get in my other bed. But once you washed up you feel new stenght and you ready for eveything. And once you changed the bed and you was on your legs for once you soon get really energie. I got the surgery done fridays and saturday afternoon I was walking the hallways. With my IV on the Stand and my tube bags pint to my shirt.

Please help me to the bathroom...
I am in pain. then a scale or someway to convey how much pain I am in.
I'd would like a pain medication.
-I am predicting alot of pain (lol).
but something of the sense.
It's actually hard for me to think of phrases because I've always had care in an american hospital; and to ask for assistance wasn't a thought process. Now that I may need some phrases; it's gonna take somewhat of a thought process to work towards what I think I might need.
Thanks for the tips... Keep 'em coming.

Hello
I fell you. But you really got no reason to be all nervouse. You will be just fine . Well the night lady don't speak that good english but when you point on what you want she will get it. Or she will get someone who understand. What phrase did I used a lot let me think ...... IV means Infusion .ICU is Wachstaion . Ultrasound is Ultraschall. But if you still not sure take an english german dictionary with you. Maybe that helps a bit to. I mean I can write some german stuff down but when there speak it it still sound a bit different. If there is any word or phrase you really want to know let me know i will write it down for you in german . But if you got an dictionary you should be fine you can point at the word and there will know . And like I said most of them all speak english or there is always someone who speak it. Sometimes a lot of the german patien speak english 2. As soon as you can drink as much as you want you will be abel to take tea from the hallway. There ahve a lil tea staion over there. drink a lot Fenschel tea it will help you for the gas you have in the first days. As soon you can walk walk up and down the hallways or if the weather is nice go in the graden thing there have. Is really good for the gas to go down . But don't walt to far maybe you need to use the rest room really fast . Well more question just ask.Ah yes and if you can take a sportbottle with you when you a loud to drink carrie it with you at all the time 2 get you fliude when you get of the IV. Also Gaterade is really good and after all the tea really good tasting. Thin it with water for the fist days. I was drinking it in the hospital my husband brouthg me some bottels at teh Comessarie . Let me think about some more tips and I will get back at you all.

I did get your email (smile). I'm a bit nervous about the hospital stay because on average; I'll be in the hospital for at least 5 days. From feedback I received from another fellow stapler, she warns that although the day nurses speak english pretty well... it's the evening and weekend nurses whose english may be a bit more challenged. Knowing my luck, most of my issues will occur at night (lol).
As a matter of fact; for those reading this post please send me some phrases you found yourself using during your stay at any hospital. I'm gonna compile a list. It may help future patients feel more confident about their hospital stay as well.

Like I wrote in the email to you ( I hope you got it ) you don't need to know a lot german . Everybody over there is speaking english and in case there don't there will get some one who speak it. The hospital is really good perpared for english speaking patien. I was there with my fiend yesterday and have to say that When we was stiiting down there for her first appointment there where 3 english speaking patiens there. Is a really great hospital. But if you wanna know some stuff in german just let me know what and I will let you know. I was in the hospital for about 5 days after surgery and one day before surgery so makes 6 days all together . I think it is between 5-8 days in normal without any complication.
I can give on BIG tip. Before you go in surgey you will ahve to drink a really nasty 3 liter stuff. Is super nasty . But there got an good other stuff you can buy in german drugstore ( Apotheke) is called Fleet . You have to drink 2 small bottels ( is still nasty but better than the other stuff) and after 2 small bottel you drink 2 liter plain water or juice. So is a lot better than 3 liter of the nasty stuff. You can buy the Fleet in the german drug store and bring it with you in the hospital. Let them know you have your own stuff. Is for cleaning you out and makes you use the rest room a lot. So bring some soft toilet paper because you know german toiletpaper is not really soft. Or wet toiletwipes.Any more question just ask them I try to anwer or find the anwer out for you. Good luck

I already know what you mean about the difference between ****y and confidence. In my battle against obesity I have had some ups and some downs. The Ups are when I discovered that same problem. Alls I know, is that I am more careful about the friends I keep, or what I tell to which friends.
I used to hang with a group of girls who I will refer to as the ugly ducklings. I was the ugly duckling who finally became a swan. The other ducklings became resentful. They are still my friends, I am just careful as to what I can divulge to them. Make sense?
Anyway, great advice. I'll probably have more questions along the way. Thank you!
