Congratulations Dave on your round of 80! Have you hit the 70's yet? I play almost every day in the winter--tend to take time off in the summer and only play a couple times. My lowest score ever was an 83.
Topic: RE: Gosh! Is everyone out playing?
What a score! I'm 4 weeks post op and played 18 on Sat and 18 on Sun (110 & 104). About 10 strokes higher than usual....but did I mention I'm 4 wks post op and it was 97 degrees? I'm just glad to be out golfing. I found that I have to sip a boost high protein drink throught the day to keep my energy up (I know your not suppose to but I figure these are drastic weather conditions) and of course water. It doesn't hurt for me to swing a club so I'm happy! I hope to hit better as I lose more weight...maybe one day even as low as you Dave!

Just an update on how I'm playing (seems like there's not much posting done here).
I went to a newer course in Buena Vista Va this weekend that opened up last fall. A links type course with tall grass and a lot of target shots - oh, the greens were hard as rock. Anyway, I went with family and friends and we had a great time. My brother in law played his best 9 ever on the front and shot a 40. My other friends shot a 107 and a 102. I played really well, missed 1 fairway and had one 3 putt and ended up with a 77 (37 and 40). It was hot and they were complaining about the heat but I kept drinking water and had a protein shake at the turn. My stamina is really good and my waist keeps getting smaller (from a 58 to a 44 in just over 3 months)! I hoep the few of you that post here are hitting them well!

Topic: RE: Golf - Motivation for WLS?
Sue,
I see you are from the Windy City. In Toronto we have about 300 courses within 1 hour of downtown. Very similar numbers to Chicago.
My Surgery (Open - Duodenal Switch) is scheduled for June 22, 2005. I wish you luck with your's and hope you can swing a club before long. I have been out 17 times since April 7 and plan on playing at least every other day till surgery. Who knows, that may be the end of my season (but not my career).

David,
I completely understand your motivation and your situation. When the pulmonoligist asked me why I wanted to do this I said besides the health benefits was to improve my golf game. He said if there was an operation he could have to improve his game he would have it!
Do you have a date yet? Mine is next week 5/31 and can't wait to get it done and get back on the course!

Mary,
How are you coming along? I'm having my surgery 5/31 and by biggest complaint is that it's in the middle of golf season! I'm hoping to only miss 3 weeks so I'll be interested on when your up and swinging again.
Have a quick recovery!

WOW, that's great news! I'm trying to get all the golf in that I can before my surgery on May 31st. I played 18 yesterday and shot a 96, which is what I shoot. I'm hoping that weight loss will finally help me to improve past this point and maybe one day break 90!

Ed,
I had the lap RNY and felt great about 3 days out. My doc didn't want me to play for at least 3 weeks though just to be safe.
No question my wieght hurt my game. I was out of breathe walking from the cart to the ball in the fairway! I still hit the ball well but my yardage was going down very quick - and I'm a long hitter.
I played last Saturday -my first round in golf shoes in several years - and found that the added height (compared to sneakers) affected my iron play. I'll just have to hit a couple thousand balls into the backyard net and get used to playing in real golf shoes again.
Good luck on your surgery!
Dave
