Hello April ! : I think we are the only two folks (folkettes) interested in hair styles. I'm really good at complex hair braiding. I check this board every so often, you're the first person to ever post to the board. Congrats!!! Maybe other people have been to the board, but simply didnt want to post because no one posted. NOTE: If you are new to the board - please drop us a line and say HELLO, I WAS HERE !!! *****Diannejasmine, Los Angeles***** From www.diannejasmine.com

Hi, I do hair, I gave up doing it in a big salon.I worked with 28 hair dressers, after I had my son, I gained weight and I tried everything to take it off but it would creep up slowly. I was also tired, my back hurt, knees and my asthma was killing me. I dreaded my boss, shhhhhee is one evil b****, your damned if you do and your damed if you don't. I had a client one time that had hair down to her butt she wanted an all over color then she wanted a full foil,an a haircut Okay that was fine. At the end of the day my boss told me that the client I did had a NSF ckeck and could not find her in the system and tried calling her home which is disconnected. This client racked up a bill of 385.00 including products. I did not get paid for that. I was so angry I said, you know that was not my fault that she had a bounced check I did my job. All she said to me was, "well if we cant charge her you cant get paid. They never found the woman again. "I lost my love for hair at that time. I then quit within months, then I just did hair at home , my clients that knew i was leaving followed. I know $$$$ was just their main concern in that salon, my focus is my clientel and honesty. Anyways, I am self pay, hate my insurance, and I am glad I am here.

HI, I JUST REALIZED THERE WAS A MESSAGE BOARD FOR HAIRSTYLIST, SO I'M ANSWERING THE CALL. I DID HAIR FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND OWNED MY OWN SHOP AND HAD 4 STYLISTS WORKING FOR ME. I REALLY LOVED IT AND STILL DO FAMILY ON OCCASSION. I BECAME ALLERGIC TO ALL THE CHEMICALS FROM PERMS AND COLOR AND HAD DEEP CUTS IN MY FINGER TIPS AND SOLES OF MY FEET THAT WOULDN'T HEAL. I HAD TO GO ON STEROIDS TO CLEAR MY SYSTEM OF ALL THE JUNK THAT ACCUMULATED UN MY SYSTEM AND GIVE UP HAIRSTYLING. RIGHT NOW I'M SEMI RETIRED AND PRE-OP TESTING FOR SURGERY. ONLY A COUPLE MORE TESTS AND HOPEFULLY I'LL BE APPROVED AFTER THAT. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF STYLIST OUT THERE AND WE ARE A DEFINETLY A SPECIAL BREED. IT TAKES ENERGY, WISDOM, CREATIVITY,AND LOTS OF PATIENTS TO WORK IN THIS INDUSTRY. ONCE A HAIRDRESSER ALWAYS A HAIRDRESSER, IT'S IN YOUR BLOOD. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

Hello, you all! I just left the salon in November, for a number of reasons. I was burned out, and worked for a chain salon the last 2 years (out of 13). I did other things here and there, including welding in a shop where my husband worked, and always ended up back in the salon. i'm really missing it right now, but my energy level is too low, and the arthritis in my knees doesn't help. I can't wait to get back in to the salon! I mis it sooo bad. My cousin was here tonight, and we turned her hilited hair RED, it was so awesome! I used semi-permanent color, since it was her first time as red, but i'm afraid it will soon fade, because of the hilites. It made me miss the salon though..I LOVE doing make-overs. One of the things I'm thinking of doing, after my recovery, is opening my own salon, but i'm not sure yet. I live in a pretty small town, so the nearest big town is about half an hour away. Not sure I want to have one there, and have to run there everytime there may be a problem. JUST not sure yet. In the mean time, i'm getting everything ready for insurance, and HOPING to get approval soon. I want to get laproscopic RNY, and it is looking like that is the method my surgeon wants to do on me. I had my consultation with Dr. Cacucci, at St. Vincent Carmel. She seems very knowledgeable, and I feel comfortable with her. If anybody wants a pen pal, feel free to email me! Would be glad to hear from you!
