Hello, I was here! ha ha!
I never noticed this board before today.
I'm a cosmetologist.
I'm in the process of opening my own hair salon in my home so I can work at home while I raise my kid(s).
I think WLS will help my business. I have noticed that people (moslty men) like skinny women to cut their hair. So hopefully this will be a plus to the bank account! Ü
i totally agree with the "people like skinny hairstylist" coment!!!!! i rent a booth in minnesota. i like the fact that i work whenever i want. i work evenings only 5-10. my husband works during the day and i wanted to be with my kids so i work around his schedule. anyway.........i struggle with getting men for clients. i get sooooo frustrated when i see blatently terrible haircuts leave the salon, but they're happy because they got it cut by a skinny, stylish bimbo. whoops, do i sound bitter???
i'm getting surgery on may 24th and i'm going to see how many more men clients i get after i've lost my weight. i know it'll be more.
good luck on starting your business. it's fun running your own schedule.
I completely agree with the "help my bussiness part". I said the same thing and my husband said that was crazy. Glad Im not alone. I work in a salon with 8 other stylist and stylist come and go a lot. I'v seen many girls right out of school that were skinny and cute and couldnt cut a straigt line with a ruler. Some of these haircuts are just awful and sometimes I stop them at the door and bring them back in to fix things so that the entire salon doesnt get a bad name. But I have been doing hair for many years and cant get many male clients. We will see the differance when we are skinny and cute!!
Hey All,
I was a Hairdresser also. I was for years. But for years I've now been in the corporate world. I do miss hairdressing, but due to my weight, I'm sure it was a good thing that I have a sit down job now.
I still am a Hairdresser in my heart. Every couple of years I still go to the hair show at the Jacob Javits center in NYC.
I also felt the sting of being a big girl and doing hair.........
Actually I had at one time even decieded I would go back to shampooing so I could get into one of those "hoity toidy" salons in NYC - she looked me up and down and said, we filled that position!!!! Bit$^%$.
I wasn't even as big then.
Hope more people write on this site!!
Good luck to all.................Debi
HI .....
I totally understand about the "skinny-girl" problem. After working in the same small town for 23 years and having a HUGE clientele...I moved to a beach town in So Cal and dreaded looking for work...walking in to a slon where eveyone was new to the field, rail-thin, and dressed to the hilt.
Luckily....or maybe divine intervention ....something prompted me to reply to a recruiting card I got in the mail, and I met the most wonderful salon owners who value my experience and I feel good at my job. I told them up-front that surgery was in my future so.....now that I have the referral...they are on my side. I just can't wait to feel better after standing all day....I work hard to prove that "fat people" aren't "lazy"....
Good luck to all of you....We are in a great profession, don't give up on it !!! People like us, who are so beautiful inside are the ones who bring the beauty to the others on the outside....
HELLO HELLO HELLO!!
I love this web site. Finding new things everyday.
I have been blessed to finally work full time at the career in which I have had a license for 17 years!! I LOVE IT!!
I moved to this small town in March of '04 with NO clients or even knowing anyone except my fiance. I just go to work every day and am continually blown away by the amount of walk-in clients. Since I have been here only 3 months I have been able to pay booth rent every month. Last month the salon wrote me a check! I should have done this years ago.
I don't worry too much about the "skinny" thing...I just greet everyone and they smile and we go to work. Even the men are returning. It's lovely.
Email me or leave a message.
Hoping to hear from you all soon!!
Be blessed and be well.
Jill
