Topic: Windowsill Herbs
I recently invented a new type of herb garden for Quirky.com, and I was wondering what varieties we should reccomend to include in the starter pack. I am talking to some chinese herbalists, and I also wanted to get your opion as to what herbs are best for weight loss. Anyone have good evidence for Herbs helping lose the weight?

This year was my first try at herbs, I'm growing lavender, rosemary, lemon thyme, and sweet basil. I'd love to learn to use herbs for medicinal purposes, as well as cooking. I am very new to this ;-)

Our Hoosier Herb garden is teeming this year. I went crazy to tell the truth, but since we use to much of it and then dry the rest well I couldn't resist. Right now in the ground we've got flat and curly parlsey, Vietnamese coriander, purple sage, chives, oregano (gotta love the Greek!), lemon and French thyme, English lavender, rosemary (luuuuuuuuuuuv it!), and dill.
I have had horrible luck with parsley and cilantro but I keep trying. Any advice on dill?

What kind of herbs will you be growing this year?
I think I'll start with my favorite Dill, perhaps some basil, and some oregano also.

My favorite herb to grow is dill, I use it for everything. Unfortunatley the second year I grew it the gophers also they decided they liked it and ate it all.
I'm going to my first visit with the Surgeon tomorrow, I know I have a lot to learn and go through, but I'm hoping this is what I have been looking for. More energy, less stress physically and mentaly.
Hoping to see you around.

Hi Gail!
How interesting. I'm also an RN. I garden in my yard and love herbs. I can still get around wel enough to do most of what I need to do in the garden, but get tired faster than I want to. My goal in this garden is to grow every kind of thyme I can find as well as finding lesser used herbs such as horehound and feverfew (I've managed to find both!). My current project is spreading mulch. I just got a truckload and can't use my driveway until I get it all moved. Also I am starting flowers from seed, mostly daisies and marigolds, for my wedding this summer.
When is your surgery scheduled?

Hi Jeannie,
I am pre-op and also a RN. I love herbs and gardening and hope that when I lose wt and also have a second knee replacement I can grow more things but for now herbs in containers are cool. I love to grow things to use to "spice up" my cooking and figure that will be important post op with bland foods at first with liquid and soft stuff.
Gail
