plus sized riding clothes

I'm happy to find this message board! I'm scheduled to have LapBand surgery on June 5th and I'm already fantasizing about being a great rider once again! It will be quite some time still before my boots fit (I've kept them for years) and I didn't keep any clothes. Does anyone out there know where I could go for plus sized riding clothes and/or boots? It's also got to be a source that is reasonably priced since I won't have the clothes but for maybe one season. I will be taking some back to basics lessons on a draught cross (drassage) gelding and can just go in jeans and my half boots, but I already know I'm going to want to compete at low levels as soon as possible. Thank you, Stacie

Hi Stacie! There are a few brands right now making TERRIFIC plus size britches. I haven't gone looking for tall boots or show shirts and coats yet. Irideon makes a plus size riding pant that's excellent ( Ihave a pair)., the Equus XL fleece lined winter breech is SO nice and warm and stretchy! I don't carry too much weight in my calves so I ride in ariat XL half chaps just fine- try them! EQ makes nice breeches, but I haven't tried them, same with Kerrits, and Boink. Let me know how it goes!

you mentioned that you would be taking some beginners classes....could you provide me with any info. I have always wanted to learn to ride! My surgery is scheduled for January and riding is on my TO DO List. Nancy :-p

I bought my riding pants from Boink, State Line Tack carries them. They were like $80 when I bought them like 5 years ago.

There used to be an online store called 1824 that sold Plus Sizes... looks like you can still find them here:

http://www.equestriancollections.com/brands.asp?bc=1

Or if that doesn't work just google "1824 plus size".

Also, I have found that ariat boots and clothes fit me quite well. I am currently a size 22-24 in pants and the XXL ariat stretch riding tights are perfect, if not a little loose on me.  For field boots I use Ariat women's, the largest calf size they have, and same for my half chaps. For leather items it's always a little bit of a stretch till you wear them in but I'm impressed they make stuff that fits me.

Best of luck!
