Just curious if this forum is still active as the last post I can see is from over a year ago.

Or if that doesn't work just google "1824 plus size".
Also, I have found that ariat boots and clothes fit me quite well. I am currently a size 22-24 in pants and the XXL ariat stretch riding tights are perfect, if not a little loose on me. For field boots I use Ariat women's, the largest calf size they have, and same for my half chaps. For leather items it's always a little bit of a stretch till you wear them in but I'm impressed they make stuff that fits me.
Best of luck!
New here - it's my first post! I am looking to get lap band and have my first appointment on Friday so I'm starting to get nervous cause reality is setting in. From here, I imagine it'll only be a few months till the surgery as long as all the insurance stuff goes smoothly. Anyway... I am 25 and have always ridden/owned horses since I was 6 years old and also always been fat. I have, a few times in my life, been told I was too large to ride at certain barns, made to feel bad that the horse would go lame because of me, etc. but I've owned several horses and never had an issue with them so I think most of that is bull (usually weigh around 250.)
So, I just bought a new horse last month for the first time since my old guy died nearly 5 years ago and even though I've ridden, taken lessons, and leased in the time between then and now, there's nothing like owning one of your own again.
I'm wondering about riding after lap band. Riding is my primary form of exercise and my biggest enjoyment and I hope I won't have to give it up for too long but I'm pretty paranoid that if I do ride it'll be horribly painful forever or mess something up. I know, dumb fears. And of course I'm going to talk to the surgeon about it but I wanted to ask here since some of you have to have ridden after lap band or RNY.
Definitely looking forward to hanging out here more and talking about horses. This is an excellent forum.
This forum is wonderful, i rode horses for several years when younger then had to stop for about 20 years, have had horses again for 1 and 1/2 years now, I am having trouble staying balanced I guess because of my weight. Am having RNY but am awaiting a date, Dr. Hart at Atlanta Bariatrics. How long before people feel like riding after surgery? I am so full of questions dont know where start. My wonderful son bought my horses for me. 2 walkers an a qarter horse. Love those gaited horses. Would love to have a saddlebred again, there is nothin g like that ride. Just not a good enuff rider for them now. Maybe when down a few pounds. Sooooooooo excited. I live on the Al/Ga line, on a time line, a new and different experience. LOL

Thanks for asking about my mother. She had a biopsy done last week and saw the oncologist yesterday. I take her tomorrow to get the results of the scan. He thinks that if the cancer hasn't spread then they could do chemo and radiation and try to shrink it and then operate and take out part of her lung. She's 82 and I don't think she could survive a surgery like that. She is so thin and frail. But we'll just have to wait and see what he says. She said if the chemo makes her sick that she will stop it and let nature take it's coarse. I don't blame her. I wouldn't want to live that way either. So it's a wait and see game.
Hey. I just thought I would see how you are doing? It has been a while since we talked. Anything new with you? Did you return that bitless bridle? My husband and I laughed and laughed at the way you said...."Have to tell you the bitless bridle is getting returned." We were laughing because we know where your coming from!! Horses are such turds! You can't be good to them...they won't let you. Every time we try to go that extra little mile to make them more comfortable, more happy or anything....they take advantage of you!!! How is your mother? I have been thinking about her. Your both in my prayers. Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon!! Cindy
When I am Old...
I shall wear diamonds
And a wide brimmed straw hat
With silver and leather on it
and I shall spend my social security
On white wine and carrots
And sit in the alley of my barn
And listen to my horses breathe.
I will sneak out
in the middle of a summer's night
And ride the chestnut mare
Across the moonstruck meadow
If my old bones will allow.
When people come to call I will smile and nod
As I walk them past the gardens to the barn
And show, instead, the beauty growing there
In stalls fresh-lined with straw.
I will shovel and sweat and
Wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment to all
Who look down on me.
They've not yet found the peace in being free
To love a horse as a friend,
A friend who waits at midnight hour
With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For the kind of women I will be
When I am Old.
