Topic: Nearly Bombproof Horse Question
Hi Guys,
I have a question for you knowledgable people. My wonderful appendix QH is nearly bombproof on the trails. Usually the most he will do is shy away from something and give it a good stare as he goes by. With one exception: People on Foot. When we come across a person on foot while trailriding, that almost always causes a full out spook. Deer, Ok; Birds flying out of the cornfield in front of him, ok; lawn mowers, bicycles, motorcycles, schoolbuses, chainsaws - ok.
Is this unusual? From some of his previous behavior (and the scars) we suspect that this horse have had some rough treatment, but he has a very calm and loving temperment. He has gone from head and foot shy to "Love me, pet me, play with me..." I'm just curious if other people have this same issue.
Happy Trails,
Deb
Topic: RE: ANYONE ELSE HEADING TO THE AQHA CONGRESS IN OCT?????
Okay... EASY on the Dressage is boring comments!!! I happen to think that it is SPECTACULAR!!!! Of course, when I was a teenager showing Dressage, my Show Dad use to say it was like watching grass grow!!!! I just couldn't understand where he was coming from!!!
I might make it to the Congress this year... I haven't been in a while, but do miss the environment. Yes, you can get excellent deals on the last weekend... perhaps I'll see you there!
Thanks,
Karen, from Southern Ohio
Topic: RE: weight and riding
One reason is safety. My 17hh TB launched me off when I weighed 324lbs, breaking 3 rib*****turing a lung and winding up in the hospital for 5 days.
I had been riding this horse for 7 years and at 17hh 1200 pounds he had no problem carrying me around as if I were as light as a feather. One while I was hauling my fat a$$ up on to him, a tractor came around the corner and scared him and he tossed me off.
Now 5 years later, 127 pounds lost I am finally back in the saddle. Very tenatively at 1st as I had completly lost my confidence.
I am glad to finally be riding again, and I'm suremy horse is happy for the 127 pounds off his load. ;)

Howdy Fellow Horse Lovers!
I'm Chris from Hanna, Indiana (the true Middle of No Where USA) but I love it here.
I have 3 horses, 6 y/o QH Dan, 6 y/o QH Buckskin Buckie, and 10 y/o QH Paint, Rocky. Also have 2 miniature mediterranian donkeys, 14 y/o Hello Ted, and 19 y/o Julio!
Rocky and I were quite active in IN/IL CMO until my job forced me to work on weekends and miss all the rides!
Now, I'm retired and looking forward to being active in the club again sometime soon!
I had an open RNY at Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti Michigan on August 9 and have lost 33 lbs so far! Feeling great and looking forward to the return to "real food" in a little over a week!
I've always been overweight, so Rocky will be very thrilled once I lose the rest of these extra pounds!
This horse forum is an excellent idea!! Looking forward to meeting and chatting with all of you!!
GIDDYUP!
Topic: Hi Everybody,
Congrats o...
Hi Everybody,
Congrats on your new horsey purchase Jack. I used to go to alot of auctions, I was always bemused at how terrible some people can be with there live stock. I would leave with a sence of shame. I can't believe how many tricks some people pull to try and make a buck (like useing drugs on horses to cover up behavior problems or lameness issue).
Does it seem to everyone that horses are getting smarter? Or do I jus****ch my horses more than I use to?

Hi Lizzie,
I started laughing when I realized something. Your horse's name is Indie. Well the Half Perch im looking at is named Indy. And a filly at that. At almost 15 hands at just over a year old. Its also kinda amuzing that we both live in the same state. Yeah im waitin till I get back to work and such and take care of some more bills. And see how things go. If it looks good I'll probably end up getting Indy. All I know is ground manners are important to me but I like fiestiness undersaddle, thus my thing for pleasure horses...lol. But one thing she would learn before going undersaddle is driving. I love that too. All I know is I can't wait to ride again.
Catch ya later,
Nicole
