Hi, Julie! What a cool picture of you and Jr! That looks like so much fun. I'm currently in the process of replacing my mare, who turned out to be totally inappropriate for me as I lost weight. After one injury too many (to me, not her), it was time to find her another home. The before picture on my profile is with her at a Christmas party. I'll miss her, but I miss feeling safe in the saddle even more. My new prospect will be showing this weekend, so I'll get a good chance to see how she responds to crowds and activity. I should be able to start riding her next week, just as soon as I see my orthopedist one more time. Wish us luck, she has been wonderful for all my "test-drivers," but you never know until you actually ride the horse for yourself. Deb

Topic: My Lifelong Dream....almost complete!
My dream since I was 8 yrs old was to breed horses. Well, I now have my little herd of Foundation Appaloosas--my stallion Joe, and 3 mares: 11 yr old Spot, 2 yr old Bambi, and 1 yr old Gracie (Spot's daughter). The rest of my new dream will come true once I have my surgery and can ride more comfortably and confidently again--then Joe and I are going to hit the show trail, the distance trail, endurance, all those fun things to do from the back of a horse! You can see my critters at http://scratchbottom.com, and speaking of horses for sale, Spot and Joe's baby that is due in February 2005 will be for sale at weaning! Guaranteed color, conformation, ability, and a disposition to die for....both parents are genuine sweeties (most people don't believe Joe is a stallion when they first meet him, he's such a pocket pony)! I encourage everyone out there who loves these wonderful creatures to find a horse and just love on it, if you're not confident in riding. Or learn to drive--no one is too heavy to handle lines! Topic: Hello one and all
I'm a 40 yr old riding retread. I previously haven't had a horse since I was in HS. That was more years ago then I care to remember. For Valentines day this year my husband got me my very first team of draft horses (childhood dream). A mare and gelding. The mare didnt work out but the gelding is my baby. We are in the SCA and I do leatherwork for a living. Barding and his 'outfit' making is a blast. This is such a wonderful departure from reality for me. Heres a photo of myself on our gelding Jr. In our first set of SCA regalia. http://www.destrierleather.com/jr_barding.jpg We just found our 6 yr old daughter 20 yr old mixxed pony she is now learning from. Here's a photo of her mare Shiloh. http://www.destrierleather.com/ladyshiloh.jpg JC

Deb, just a guess here....but when you were heavier you were also less secure and maybe you were not asking very much of her. Therefore she just rode you around...no cantering and everyone was happy. Now that you've lost weight you are asking more of her than she wants to give and she is showing her greenness. Maybe she needs more groundwork to build HER confidence. Just my 2 cents worth. AJ

We're here, alright. Just been too busy to post much, I guess. I'm in the process of changing horses. My beautiful Libby was having more behavior problems the thinner I've gotten , and is for sale after shattering my arm (and confidence ) a couple of months ago. I'm still very attached to her, but she has developed a fear of jumping and just won't cut it as a hunter. I have a new horse that I am seriously looking to buy, as soon as the orthopedist lets me get back up. Experienced show horse, automatic changes, ignores motorcycles... a beautiful mover and a real packer. Hopefully we will be a good match. Only 16 more days until I can start finding out. BTW, can anyone explain why a horse that was kind and patient carrying me around at 300 pounds would start acting up as I lost weight, expecially after I got under 200? Not that I'm planning to have any more weight swings, just confused about what happened to us. Deb

I have 8 horses. 3 Icelandic's, 3 paints, 1 gaited pony and 1 minature appy horse. None of mine are for sale. Just wanted you to know horse lover's are everwhere. On this board I see alot of people wanting horses again but not alot for sale. There are alot of places to look for horses for sale. Horsetrader.com or dream horse.com are a few to look at good luck in your search. Have a wonderful day and God Bless
