I live and breath bowhunting for deer. How long after surgery before I can shoot my bow again ? I shoot a recurve. How long before you were climbing into tree stands. Apprecitiate any feedback from those who've had surgery(lap Rny)

Great Story. I will be hunting for two weeks straight this year. Near the town of MarkVille, and Danberry. I have seen a buck such as yours but never got a shot off. There have been many 14 point bucks take in and around our property(300 acers)

It's dove hunting this wekend in South Texas - can't wait! I love the smell of gun powder in the afternoon! I am excited because I am booked for a hunt in South Texas in mid-November and can't wait to be able to enjoy it more and not be the "big girl" in the group any longer. I love to hunt just about everything (I know - big suprise I'm from Texas) and participate in several all girl hunts throughout TX every year. I am primarily a competitive shotgun shooter and can't wait to be able to walk a Sporting Clays course instead of riding on a cart. Maybe my scores will even improve! Good luck and hope you get to smell gun powder real soon! I am scheduled for 9/15!!!

Topic: Deer hunter Excitement!! Story of 2003 season
I am a huge deer hunter. Actually I hunt every thing from Ducks to Deer and every thing inbetween. I have the privillege of hunting 900 acres of rolling wooded hills in Central Wisconsin. I have killed over 20 deer including 9 bucks with the largest being last rifle season. I was hunting Thanksgiving day by myself because the Packers were playing and it was windy and raining. I went out to my usual spot about 12:30 in the afternoon. As I sat in my blind I thought to myself how nice it would be to be at home not soaked and wathching the Game with my hunting partner (AKA my Dad). I was frozen soaked to the bone and saying to myself what a joke I should have listened and stayed home. I had sat there for about 2 hours when a small buck kind of galloped by me. Then doupled back and disappeared over the valley next to my blind. In the intrest of keeping warm and semi dry I decided to stay put for a while. Then all of a sudden a doe ran by me full tilt. That same small buck was chasing her Mercifully. Then all of a sudden I heard a deep grunt that stopped that little buck in it's tracks. The doe ran off and the little buck seemed frozen in time. What seemed like an eternity passed and then the buck trotted off into the valley again. I got down from my stand against my better judgement and started to work my way through the trees tward the valley. I got to the ridge and saw that little buck he was breathing heavy and looking nervous I thought for sure he spotted me so I froze behind a tree. Then all of a sudden comming from the next ridge over was the biggest buck I have seen in our neck of the woods. Looking right at the smaller buck with vengence in his eyes. I aimed my .270 placing the cross hairs in the middle of his huge neck and fired. He went down instantly. The little buck ran off and as my heart slowed down I walked the 80 yards to where he laid and saw he was the biggest buck I have ever shot. It turned out the buck was heavy at the bases 10 points 19 inches inside spread and 220 pounds feild dressed. I wont be hunting this year because of my surgery on Sept. 9, 2004. But next year I will have a new hunting parnter my oldest son will be joining the ranks of hunter. If any one else has stories of past hunts please share. Pj Manning

Topic: Sept. 16 bow season opens!!
September 16, 2004 our bow season opens in Wis. It seems to be an incredible year too. All of august has been unseasonably cold it actually feels like Fall already. I have been doing some scouting with my hunting partner AKA my Dad. We have seen more sign this year than any other year to date. We have seen some incredable bucks this year too. We have the blessing of 900 wooded acres with rolling hills to hunt. But unfortunitally I am lucky to cover 10 acres of it in my present condition with my weight and other health issues. I am having RNY distal (lap) on Sept. 9, 2004 and will prolly miss bow season this year. Which is ok for me I will have plenty more years to come and actually be able to hunt like I was taught not like the last few years hardly venturing off the roads. The most exciting part is next season my oldest boy will be joining me for his first year of hunting also and I will be able to pass on the traditions and teachings of my father. I am hoping to make gun season but it not I will be looking forward to next season before this one even ends.

Just thought I would say hey!! Yes my husband and I are looking forward to deer season along with all the others. Squirell season just came in last weekend. bow season starts the 4th of sept. for deer. Enjoyed spending first sunrise morning with our son sunday morning for squirell hunting. went as expected, telling him to saty still and be quiet, lol. I hope to do more hunting with him since I am lighter and can climb the mountains better. How is hunting going there in Miss.?- Melissa

Matt, I know this post is quite old to be responding to but I hope you get it anyway. I am also a huge hunter Deer is by far my favorite also. But I do hunt almost every thing here in Wisconsin from ducks to deer and evey thing in between. I have noticed in the past few years I have slowed down alot because of my weight issues. My stands have got closer to the roads and I almost dread shooting a deer because of the drag, being out of breath and feeling like I may keel over with a heart attack. I have fought tooth and nail with my insurer and finally got approved for a surgery date of SEPT-9,2004. Talk about mixed emotions our bow season starts on Sept.-16,2004 but all in all I have life time to hunt so be it!! Like you I should enjoy myself more next year and actually venture off the road a mile or two. Good luck this up comming season and keep in touch it is always fun to exchange hunting stories with fellow sportsmen. Pj Manning
