Topic: Ice Skating OUCH!!!!
I thought I would love to ice skate. After having WLS I felt much healthier and better about myself and thought it would be a nice idea to try and ice skate. Well, as I put the skates on I felt very wobbly and didn't think my ankles would be strong enough to do this. I should of listened to my own head. But did I NO!!! I got about 30-40 feet on the ice and started to fall and reached up with my arm to grab the wall... POP is what I heard in my shoulder. Dumb thing to do.. I should of just fell to the ice... Well, I have been getting the run around with the dr's for about 2 weeks now. Yesterday, they got the results back from the dr and said that I fractured my shoulder. I don't know how bad it is yet, as they are still giving me the run around with getting me in to see a orthopedic Dr... I'm getting so
its not funny. They better get me in soon. The rest of the family who ice skated had a great time... and they all want to go again... but for me it will be off the ice watching.

I skated for a little while as a kid, then went back to it when I was 15. I love it. I haven't had the time for it the last couple years, with university, but I hope I can go back to it. I tested in dance (I have my junior bronze dance) and in skills (prelim)... I'm hoping that if I have surgery and lose the weignt I will finally be able to do the free skate stuff I always wanted to be able to do... #1 Finally land my first axel!

Hello there fellow ice skaters
I loveeeeeee skating. Began when I was 9 years old and didn't stop until approx 10 years ago. Being I am47 years old, it is not as easy as it used to be. LOL
I sure do hope you and your mother are able to go skating, that would be wonderful !! I have "uncle arthur" as well, but it seldom ever bothered me on the ice. Actually, it was great exercise for my knees, as less pressure then simply walking or taking steps. Kept my knees fairly limber.
My weight has gotten to me and I gave up my skating. Biggest mistake I ever made. I felt better when skating at least twice as week.
I just joined this site and I am very seriously considering operation, however, want to learn very much more about it first. Weighing out all my thoughts first and making sure, I know what I am getting into.
I do hope all is going well for you and your mother.

I was an adult skater, started at 50 years old and did do some precision competitions but kept falling on my head. I am a speech patologist and know what repeated concussions can do so I, heartbroken, quit. Then, sad to say, I gained 80 pounds. I had WLS August 25th this year and am doing great. Lost 30# so far and feel wonderful. Being 67 I think that is a pretty great thing. I work with stroke survivors and people with parkinsons at a local college doing a communication class. Congratulations on your husband's return to the ice. I think my skating days are over but I love to watch it and got to know Brian Boitano as he skated at my rink in San Francisco. He is a great guy. Good luck to you on your surgery journey. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

What are you testing in? Dance, etc? My husband and I are skaters. He has parkinsons and next monday he's going on the ice the first time in 2 years. He used to compete. I intend to start back if this surgery ever happens.
