Do I need to pay for the nutritional counseling BEFORE the orientation?
If so it will be a long time til I can get to the orientation.
When I heard about the requirement for the NC I was glad that it usually took a year to have ther surgery cause it will take me at least a year to get 1450 together...sigh.
I just got my appointment to get the referral.

I got an appointment with Dr. Rouse for my referral!!!
He is on vacation so it is a bit out but April 26th isn't all THAT long to wait when I have been waiting DECADES to lose this fat!
I will be able to tell the group something at the meeting in 'milestones'... I hope!
A message on the Yahoo board scared me! It said GH was no longer covering WLS!
So I called the Customer Service and checked, I have Group Health Plus and they still cover the WLS
I was able to discuss this with my husband finally! He was in California when I came to the meeting. He is all for me having the surgery! Whew! I was afraid he would be a bit of a bugger when it came to WLS, he is never sick and doesn't like to go to the Dr. and surgery is waaaaay out there for him.
I am now bouncing in my seat and waiting!

Topic: Question about Spirometry test...
I have a couple of questions. I only need to have the spirometry test done to complete my testing. Does anybody have any idea what kind of spirometry test is needed? My doc says they can do a basic test in the office. Or they can refer me to a more detailed test, i.e. treadmill. Also, did Harriet require the actual chest x-ray or can I just have them send the report? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to our little corner of Obesity Help! I am a little bit farther in the process than you. I have completed all of my testing (except one) and have paid most of the nutritional counseling fee. I am hoping to have both of those complete within the next week. Then I get to wait until Harriet schedules me for the orientation. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. Good luck to you in your journey. We are all in this together!!!

Hi again. You should be getting a pretty thick packet of information from GH pretty soon. The information contained within those pages will answer most all your questions. If you still have questions after reading that information, let me know.
My telephone conversations with my nutritionist mostly involve what, when, and how much I ate. Actually you will be asked to keep a food log and I send mine to her via e-mail. She/he will also want to know what kind of and how much exercise you're getting.
The one thing you should try to get used to is not drinking any liquids for at least 45 minutes after you eat. That's a tough one for me, espcially if you eat something salty. I think about 8 cups of water a day is recommended.

I am waiting for my weight to go down and then one of my goal prizes is a belly button tattoo. Mostly I like the body piercings on men...
If you could help me with the beginning process like what will I be chatting about with the people at free and clear? What kind of stuff do I need to know so I can be prepared. How much water do I need to get my body used to drinking? I just don't want to throw my body into complete shock by changing everything at once... Thanks for replying

Welcome Lhasaraptor Mom. I like your name. I'm so happy for you that you are approved!
Having the WLS has been one of the best things I've ever done. I had mine ~3 months ago and lost over 70 pounds and have ~100 more to go to reach 145. But I'm extremely happy with just the 70 I've lost so far. It's made a huge difference in my life.
I see you're into body piercing. I've thought about piercing my nose. I think the itty bitty diamond stud is kind of sexy.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions about any thing.

Howdy all!! I am happy, this way we can chat about what needs to be done and how it works. I am just now getting in the process and hoping to find someone who has done this before to kind of walk me through it without being a nurse( you know 1st hand experience)
I want to do the right thing and get healthy. I hope you all had a peachy Easter and a wonderful day!

Hi Jim,
I too found that it was hard to get ahold of Harriet. But she always got back to me eventually. She did mention that she is a little overwhelmed and a little behind but assured me she was catching up. I know it feels like you are being ignored but trust me, you aren't. I felt the same way until I sat down and thought about all of the people who must be trying to contact them. I have completed all of my testing and am hoping that gets me in sooner. I found out today that they will drop the coverage in October for me also. The only thing I would suggest is to get your testing done ASAP. Have you had your psych consult yet?
Take care Jim and good luck to you!

First of all, I'm excited to see your post.
I'm sure Harriett is overwhelmed; I can't think of any other reason why she wouldn't get back to you. My insurance policy changed after I was accepted. They were able to squeeze me in early just before the coverage ended. Since there's still 6 months, I would be very surprised if they don't get you in, but that's just me thinking. I think I had less time than that if I remember correctly. I'll let you know if I can think of anything else that may help.
Are you the one with the daughter who is also having WLS?
Go to "Update Your Profile" and scroll down to "Profile Color and Photos." Follow the instructions there. If you don't have a server where you can store your photo, you will need to submit it to them so they can put it on their server which will take a few weeks at least. Good luck.
Good to hear from you.
Love Diana
