I'm thinking about purchasing a Dodge Intrepid SE. I've heard from different ppl. Some liked them, some loved them, and some had problems. Any of u had one? The one I'm thinking about buying is a 02. I found a good deal on one on autotrader.com. Adam and I discussed it and decided if we can find a good, dependable car we'll get it, instead of spending his whole car wreck settlement on a new one. There are other things that we want to do for the whole family. I love the looks of the Intrepid and of course, I did a carfax, it came back ok. I wonder how correct those are? Is there ways to lie on carfax?  Thanks Adam and Ange We're thinking of driving to Roswell GA or ******* GA both Intrepids I found are in those areas. I hope neither are in Atlanta. I don't do well driving in big cities lol. I'm a small town girl.

Ange no experience with the Intrepids, personally. I have worked some Intrepid owners. They seemed to have enjoyed the cars. No major issues that I know of.  CarFax is only as good as the input it receives. So if someone has their buddy fix the car after a small accident. then it won't know it. What if they left the scene of an accident and just pieced it together to where it looks good enough to sell but is stil;l broke below the surface.  IF you buy a car after using carfax make sure you get the warranty incase something should happen. Always try to go through a dealer when dealing with Autotrader or Ebay as at least that way you would have some recourse.

Hey Ryan, do u think those machines u pay a machine shop to put the car on really tells u whats wrong, if anything? I want this intrepid so bad but Adams scared of it. He's found a van in Somerset some guy is selling and theres nothing wrong with Kia Vans! Its nice too. This intrepid really just reached out and grabbed me. I love it. I'm just scared that something will happen. I know several ppl who've had problems and only 2 who had good luck. I know we had a dodge neon. That was the one we wrecked. We had issues with it, but some one else might love neons. I just personally won't buy another. I do want this car so bad. Its not funny. They offer a warranty and theres a mechanic near by I can pay $50-$70 to have him hook it up and check it out. What do u think? I can't fight Adam on my own lol, I need to have some male input here!

A lady I work with can give you some issues about the Kia vans. It runs but only as long as you keep money into the sensors for the darn thing. At the cost of a couple thouosand each time.

Is the costs of the  vehicles significant enough that you could be persuaded to go the kia route.

The car is near Atlanta GA. I don't mind driving down there. But Adam's scared of the car even though I've now heard from different ppl who've had one that their ok. The car has 100k miles and is a 2002 Intrepid SE its $2995 The van is in Somerset Ky 2002 Kia Sedona 114k miles $4500 It has leather seats, pw everything and 4 capt chairs. The van is the one Adams rooting for. Its closer to home, we wouldn't be gone overnight to get it. What do I want? The car, but he keeps telling me the van is the "smarter" choice and how he doesn't think "I can go wrong" on this deal with the van. We have Adams dad who lives near us, goes everywhere with us, James is here alot durning the summer (my 13 yr old stepson), and we have Allison. His dad and James both are big. James is taller than me and weighs 230 something (I've tried for years to help him watch what he eats but then when he's at his mom's she doesn't care. I worry about his weight since I was overweight my whole life) my point is we have 3 ppl to haul around besides me and Adam. Pop is 6ft and 260lbs. He's not a small man. They all fit in the backseat of my neon but it was tight. I thought the Intrepid would be roomier and it would have been. I liked the looks, hell, I love the looks of it but Adam says the van is the smarter choice for the family and its not as far away. So, unless I throw a fit and want to drive to GA with a pissed off man, it looks like I'll be getting the van. Anyone want to go to GA with me lol? Just joking, Adams to damn jealous to let me go to the gym and work out much less leave the state. I like the price of the Intrepid as well. I'm a tightwad.

My brother bought a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and it had 74,000 miles on it, he had not even put 3,000 miles on it and the moto blew,  He had to buy a new motor.  There have been a lot of problems with the motors in these cars and in fact, a lawsuit is pending and we have joined it.  I would really research the car and the van might be a better choice, but I would also go on line and research it as well.  We have learned the hard way.

Ange....DO YOUR RESEARCH WELL ON THE INTREPID...google it! I purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES in 2002 and was not aware of the "motor" problems till afterwards.  I took EXTREMELY good care of mine and still had problems....first of all the transmission went bad at 78,000 (the car had 52,000 on it when I purchased it...and from what I have been told, Dodge is notorious about the transmissions going bad); but even after that, to my understanding, there is a MAJOR problem with the ones that have the 1.7L engine, which is what mine had.  My brother owns an Intrepid as well as my sister-n-law, neither of theirs has this engine and they have not had any problems, at least not yet.  To my understanding, it is a problem within the engine, and I was told that even if I found another engine to replace mine when it did go bad, I would still be buying another problem.

I ended up trading mine in toward a Toyota RAV4. I should also mention that I had been involved in a vehicle accident in mine a couple of years ago (which I have still not received a settlement on - I noticed on one of your posts about having to wait; I can relate as I am still having problems and getting treatment...even though it is at my expense right now) and nothing was on CARFAX regarding it....NADA....so, whatever choice you make...don't completely rely upon them either.

Hey Ange,   How are ya doing? I just read this post and what ever you do,,,, do not get an intrepid. I have a 2003 and when I bought it in 2005 it had 32000, miles on it. So practically new. Well it has been nothing but trouble. We've had work done on the transmission 3 or 4 times, just things are always messing up on it. I had a 1997 intrepid before I bought this one and it was the best car I had ever owned, which they say their totally differant since they changed the body style, but I thought since it was such a good car that this one would be to, but its not. Its a piece of junk. And everywhere Iv went to try and trade it in they say that you cant get your money back on them, they go down in value very fast. But this is my experiance so you may have better luck. But I wouldnt advise you to get one, oh and also I have a friend that use to have one and she had alot of motor problems with hers. Well good luck TTYL,,,, C ya Amanda
