Kentucky Medicaid

Does Ky. Medicaid require a 6 month doctor supervised diet before they will approve your surgery? I've had my medical records sent in to the doctor for over 2 months and now she says she doesn't think they will approve without the supervised diet. I am having my surgery in West Virginia. Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Judy, my insurance was KY Medicaid and they approved me without a "supervised diet". My medical records from my doctor did state that each time I came in we discussed my weight, and that he "counseled" me about it. Maybe they considered this as a supervised diet, I'm not really sure. Also, while I was waiting on approval, I called the pre-cert lady at my doctor's office and she contacted the insurance while I was on the line, she came back to me and asked if I had done a supervised diet, and I said no--well, I still got approved, so I'm not sure how demanding they are of the diet. Mine was approved with out a 6 month diet. I had no problems except for it took a few months to get approval. Good luck Judy.
