Topic: RE: Life Style Changes after Surgery - San Diego Area
We just came from San Diego, we got out but we re-enlisted and will be back in San Diego soon! I wanted to ask those who had RNY in Balboa, are the surgeons any good? I am getting mine done here in AZ but if we have to move sooner than the surgery is scheduled, I may have to see surgery at Balboa. Any feedbacks on Military surgeons on Gastric Bypass?? Thanks

Topic: hello from Kentucky!!
Hi everyone.. Please allow me to introduce myself to you and tell you a bit about what I am doing. My name is Brenda Goldschmidt and I am an events specialist and surgeon liaison. I work for myself but have been recruited by Monica Ganz of OH to put together an event in Lexington, Ky for WLS patients. I am soooo excited about that. I met a couple of ladies on line the other day and have communicated alot with one particular one named Sandy, she has been great helping me find these boards. (which by the way are very difficult to find, I hope I can have some influence in changing that, prehaps they can make one board for all military..how would you feel about that?) I have a special place in my heart for all of you out there...I have alot of military in my family past and present...My father is a veteran, my husband is a veteran..my brother just retired in November after 30 yrs in the Airforce..my son is a jet pilot for the Coast Guard and my daughter is about to marry a man who is Iraq now..he will come home for two weeks this summer, long enough for them to marry then back to Iraq.. with all this being said let me get to the point..I would love to see you get together if at all possible and I know that's a big IF with so many in other countries, but perhaps this is something we can start...OH has events all over the country. What I would like to do is give special recognition for military..If you could join me in Lexington this summer, first let me say this would be a true honor for me..but I feel it would be a great start for future events. I have gone to Monica Ganz the events manager for OH and asked if I can offer you a special discount..She agreed. the cost of the particular event is $105.00....when I asked her to give me a discount for military I almost fell over, she said "of course, lets do it for $40.00 per person"...wow..that's awesome..i am excited about that and hope you are too... If you can join us in Lexington, Ky. please email me personally. [email protected] I will send you the registration form. I will do my best to help you find affordable hotels and a space where you can meet for your own reunion..I realized that many of you move around so it's hard to have support. I hope you have found it here on OH..and I hope I can be there to help make that connection stronger!! So many have no idea that the dependants left behind are also serving our country... Thank you...I hope we meet in October in Lexington!! Brenda

Topic: RE: starbucks
Hi; I am new to boards and noticed the post IRT starbucks. My husband (deployed) loves Dunkin Donuts coffee. It is an East coast staple, but we are in CA. Anyway, their website did not offer coffee ground for sale, so I emailed the company. The reply said they would send my husband coffee if I provided his unit's mailing address. He received a CASE of ground Dunkin Donuts coffee and a thank you note. He was the hit of the coffee pot for sure. Heidi

Of course you can, JoLynn! Once a Marine, always...... and that goes for Marine families. Althoough I do not come here very often given the less than active nature of this board, I would be happy to correspond with you! Stuff does happen, but most do very well vis a vis this surgery. I hope you do well also - the odds are in your favor. Tom

Well I hope this is the board for me...... My name is JoLynne Frie, and I have been a certified EMT since I was 18 (11 yrs ago). I was certified in 3 different states (most recent here in PA). I run with 2 ambulance corps, and am a Medic with Dorney park in Allentown,PA. I noticed a HUGE change in the attitude of my fellow members at my station with the more weight I put on over the past year . Just because I am overweight doesn't mean I don't know my job (and pretty well after 11yrs I must add). I am the mother of 5 children, and am going to school full time to be a nurse (hopefully by this time next year). My husband is/was a marine for 9 years (as a Staff Sergeant Canditate****il a drunk driver took away his career by hitting him head on at an impact of 120 MPH. He was lucky to make it out alive, yet he was still able to serve his country until his discharge (do to medical complications from the accident a few months later). He was in desert shield/storm, in Okanowa, Japan, and was one of the Marines serving in the LA riots. He was on Rescue 911 (when is was popular) for his involvment in a military plane crash during a "show". He has done so many things while in the Military, I am so proud of him. As for me, I have my 1st consult on the 15th of this month in Allentown to consider bypass surgery. I am 70lbs over weight, but have had high blood pressure off and on since 2001 (have been put on meds once, and my dr is going to start me again on my next visit). My family dr (who is one of my best friends), does not believe in surgery for weight loss, so that is a problem. He believes in diet and exercise ONLY. He tells me I must eat to much if I continue to gain weight (even with just eatting salads and fruit). Since I am only 29 he has been holding off as long as possible with the BP medication as well. My husband supports me, but is also against surgery for weight loss (even if it means dying sooner). My blood sugar levels are also very unstable (highest only being 180, lowest....within just 3 hours being 60). My family has a history of CHF, Diabetes, High BP, Hypergycemia, and cancer, so with all those odds stacked against me, I think it's time to take control of my life again. My insurance is CHAMPVA (Military), which I have never had to use for something serious yet, and hope it will be pretty "quick and easy". I am VERY scared because I have had numerous surgeries (3 C-sections, and a gall bladder removal) and hate the recovery time (but hey, at least they don't need to remove my gall bladder with this surgery, cause it's already outta there ). Anyway, I could really use some friends and alot of support, so I am hoping I am in the right place.

I was jacked to learn We Few have a board of our own. I hope others become aware of it and start to post. I served 61-65, first in 7th Marines, then 3rd Marines, then a abominable tour at the Marine Detachment in Norflok, VA, at Cinclantflt. My last 7 months were spent at the 2nd Marine Air Wing at Cherry Point , North Carolina. I am still proud of being a member of the Corps and celebrate the Birthday religiously. Fortunately I live near San Francisco, so I can usually attend the Ball at the Marines Memorial Club downtown. I bid all of you a heartfelt, Well Done! OooRah!
