Hi. My husband and I are part of a growing group of husband/wife couples who hae BOTH had WLS. We are wondering how many more are actually out there! I had open RNY on March 13, 2002 my DH had lap RNY on June 19, 2003 currently, we are both down 140#. Who else are married and both spouses have had WLS.

Jennifer, My doctor told me he'd "done" a few husbands and wives - he even did a "two-fer." I can't imagine my husband having surgery the same time as me. Mine's waited on me for two weeks, which he couldn't've done if he'd had surgery, too. (Alas, my hubby doesn't need WLS - he's a RUNNER and runs about 30-40 miles a week.)

My husband and I are both planning to have the surgery. We are currently waiting for our dates. Our Dr. will NOT do our surgeries on the same day. My husband asked. But will consider a few weeks apart depending on the first to goes recovery. Good luck and GOD bless

My wife and I are both having lap RNY's on August 16th. We have an 18 year old daughter that is staying home to help us, two other children who plan on slaving over us... Wish us luck!

Hi! Both my husband and I had open RNY on June 7, 2004. I went first and my hubby was second on the same day. We love the fact that we have the mutual support of eating the same way, healing (more or less) the same way, and just being there for emotional support. I recommend that if any married couple is contemplating having this surgery separately, DONT! Do it together if you can. It made a world of difference to us.

Hi Everyone: This is my first time on this board. My husband is now recovering well from his Nov. 8th surgery. I am scheduled for Dec. 6th. Our surgeon definitely would not consider doing our surgeries the same day. I am okay with that because I'll eventually catch up to where my DH is. We are looking foward to a healthy NEW LIFE together. My husband was so morphined up that he said his surgeon told him that his stomach was stuck to his uterus. I haven't let up on this one. dianne owen pittsburgh

My hubby had his open RNY 3 years ago and has lost 200 lbs. We wanted to have our surgeries at the same time but the surgeon wouldnt do it because we have a daughter who at the time was 9 and he said she was to young for us to both be down. Anyway then we had to move out of state - (while he was off on his medical leave his office laid him off and closed his office and moved to Texas from Calif) the new insurance wouldnt cover WLS - So now 3 yrs later I am disabled and on medicare and am finally going to have the surgery this year (dont have a date yet) I cant wait!!!!!
