I went back to Judo at 6 weeks. Very light randori. Now I am up to speed at 4 months. kp

I resumed full training approximately 3 months post surgery. Prior to that I "did what I could" but I did not do full contact sparring. Once my doctor said I was totally healed up and ready to go, back to full contact I went. I have been training now for 5 years and am 1 year post op. The weight loss will make a huge difference in your training. Good luck and feel free to email if you have any questions.

I actually never took up any martial arts until after my surgery. My surgeon only had on stiupluation, absolutely no punches to the abdomen. I am almost one year post op and am considering adding even more. some Kung Fu. we don't genereally have much punches to the stomach in that but I suppose one could happen. but I feel pretty safe with it being a year post op. since I haven't started will ask my surgeon before though. I suppose it is a bit different with me since I never did any martial arts prior to my surgery. Had I had any training and conditioning prior, I might have been able to start sooner. I started around 6 months post op because that was when I had lowered my weight sufficiently that I felt able to start training. Melisa Morrison Success is the BEST revenge!

I actually started light training 2 weeks after my surgery. I had laproscopic surgery so my recovery time was quick. That first week was a little tough but after that it was smooth sailing. I began sparring again at about 2 months after surgery. Other Black Belts were cautious about hitting me in the stomach for a while but soon after it was full out sparring. I wouldn't recommend starting so soon after surgery but in my case I was ready. You have to be the judge of what's best for you and knowing your own limits.
