Help!! Why do I feel so bloated?

I don't feel sick.  I am sore and bloated in my lower abdomen.  Belching a lot.  Mylanta helps with the belching.  But the bloating just sticks.  I started regular foods on Thursday.  I don't think I'm overeating.  Dr. Vanguri wants me to stick with 2 oz every 2 hrs like I did in the pureed stage. Is this normal or should I call the Dr on Monday if its not better? I don't want to be a worry-wart, but everything is so new and sometimes its a little scary.

April, if you feel the need - call!  Never too silly of a question, and they certainly should not mind.  I feel that having the stress and worry hanging over your head, would be detrimental to your healing.  Hopefully your back to feeling normal today.  If not, let us know what you find out.  Have a good one! April at 6 week out my body gave me an unpleasant surprise. I became lactose intolerant and experienced the same symptoms you are talking about. I was MISERABLE. Finally one of my buddies on the over 50 BMI board suggested I stop dairy products. I did and it was like magic. I felt ever so much better. You may want to try that. But I in no way am suggestion that you don't call your surgeon. I hope you feel better soon. Jo

Jo, I think I will call the surgeon, but I am really thinking about the lactose intolerance.  Do you use anything like lactaid in order to eat milk products?  Or do you just avoid milk totally? I appreciate your input.

HI April.   The bloating could be from the types of food you are eating.  There are a lot of foods that cause gas/bloating such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, some meats, dairy products and even soy products.  It depends on your system and what your body can tolerate.  For me, it was milk and soy based products that caused a lot of stomach irritation.  Call your doctor and ask for something to help take away the bloating (which is VERY uncomfortable and at times painful).  Be sure to chew all of your food well and try to minimize the amount of air you swallow with your food/drinks.  It's a hard thing to think about and determine if you are doing but if you can work on cutting down the air you swallow that will help too.  You would be surprised how much air we swallow.  That's why most doctors recommend no gum chewing or drinking from straws.   Always ask questions.  No question is trival or silly.  You have changed your insides and yes, it is scary when you begin to add foods back into your diet.  Let us know when you are feeling better! Hugs, Robin

Robin, Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.  You have given me alot to think about.  The bloating is very uncomfortable, especially if I lean up against the counter or put any pressure on my lower abdomen. I am going to call my surgeon and try eliminating some things from my diet. Thanks again,

Thanks everyone for your input.  I'm going to call my surgeon, walk more, and try eliminating some foods (milk?).  I'll let you know what I find out. Have a good week ahead.
