the medications

I am having a real hard time with medications that are in capsules and have to be diluted and taken. I take prozac and that is the worst. I gag and gag and I just cannot do it. I stopped taking it as of yesterday. Also, the meds for gall stones is in capsule form too. They are not quite as nasty but have to be taken twice a day. I think I will be able to handle them. It is the first thing I think of in the morning when I wake up. Other than that I am trudging along. The pain has eased alot in my stomach and I do think that I may have pulled a muscle. Does anyone have any suggestions on disguising the meds?

I am having a tough time swallowing things that are big, too.  I do all right with my BP meds and Zyrtec, which are both tiny caplets.  I can't start taking metformin again until I get the liquid, which is on order, as my pills are horse capsules.  (Fortunately, my blood sugar numbers are great without the meds right now!!)  Ditto for Wellbutrin.  I take the generic, extended release, and they are HUGE.  I'm waiting to get the "dispense as written," which are a lot smaller than the generic I was taking.  I have to talk with my primary to see if she wants me to take aspirin again (low dose), since I'm not supposed to have it anymore because of the band.  Also, have to talk with my dermatologist about the bactrin I was taking. As for emptying capsules, could you hide the contents in a bite of applesauce or sugar-free pudding?

Pudding or apple sauce, all sugar free. The key to meds, no extended release.  Everything can be chopped up pretty much but those extened release.  I just stopped taking my paxil cause I use it for work and the was CR.  I know I need a new job, welcome to the health field.  I have been opening capsules and just downing it as quick as I can.  I been chewing my Reglan just to get over it.  Not everyone can do that and it is GROSS Hugs Kristen

Yep, I hate the gall bladder med too.  I take mine mixed with lemonade crystal light.  I find that the tartness of the crystal light hides most of the bitterness that the med has.

I am not sure this will help as I did not have to disolve my capsules.  But I have the same issue. I too take both those meds. I am drinking them down with cold beef broth!!! I find that the strong flavor of the beef broth helps to somehow overcome the gagging. I also tell myself that I am thirsty as I am taking the pill. (Old Jewish wives tale from my mother). And between the 2 things it helps me take them without gagging almost 100% of the time. I couldn't handle opening up the caps. No matter what I mixed them in the taste lingered forever. Good luck with it and glad you stomach is feeling better. Jo

That was why I stopped my prozac entirely. Sadly, I have had to go back on it, but I couldn't do it at all then either. You should be okay. I am told constantly about adding it to applesauce or something like that. Of course, you need to wait til you can eat such foods. Soon!
