4 LETTERS OF NECESSITY?
Goodmorning I have a question. I finally got in to see Dr. Michael Schweitzer, after the consultation I had to speak with his financial coordinator Teresa. She advised me that I should get a 4 letters of medical necessity from my previous PCP in Florida, my GYN who I've only seen once, my Rhumatologist whom I've yet to meet, and another DR. This is in addition to the letter from my PCP. I am just curious if anyone has ever heard of that requirement. I received a letter from my inusrance company, and they need a letter from my pcp, 6month diet history, mental health evaluation, and letter from surgeon.
Its seems a bit much to me to try and get 4 letters from doctors who may or may not approve of this procedure.
Has anyone experienced this before?
I gathered my paper last summer and had to produce only a letter from my PCP, plus the psych and nutritional evals. I had my own shrink do the psych eval, so it was like another letter of necessity. Maybe he's changed his rules. Or maybe he's decided he needs more proof of your co-morbs on file so he can go to bat for you with the insurance company if you don't get approved the first time up.
The upside for you to getting all these letters is that it provides lots of evidence of why you need the surgery. If you've moved recently, I can definitely see getting the letter from the PCP in Florida, too.
