OT - Childhood Halloween Costume Memories
I had the boxed costumes - i specifically remember Snow White and man was it hot behind that plastic. Mind you, I grew up in FL but I remember it was always a bit cooler for Halloween. I also remember doing the POODLE skirts and saddle shoes.. the hippy thing.... ghost, etc.
My parents weren't too big on Halloween because when they were first married they didn't have money to candy so they turned their lights off, etc. and their car was egged. From then on they never really saw the festive part of it but let us participate anyway.
i do NOt like the scary aspect of Halloween... I don't believe in scaring the bejebers out of young kids, but I do like the social, fun, play aspect of it. We couldn't get in the spirit this year, but we normally have a lot of goofy Halloween lights and blow up decorations around our yard. I also tend to forget it has religious roots, but as I said, to me it's about having fun, playing dress up adn getting goodies - period.
it's HUGE in my 'hood so if anyone wants to come on by, I'll give you directions. LOL. I had over 120 kids at my door last year.
Oh yea, and I have 2 golden retrievers that would probably play dress up for you Tia. Come get them!!!
Hey Ang!!!!
I think last year, we gave away about 15 pounds of candy!!! That was, of course, after my Mom picked out her faves!!! LOL!!!!
Looking back, she lied to us. When she said she needed to look through the candy before we could eat it, she didn't care if there were razor blades in gum - she was scoping out the chocolate!!! DAMMIT!!! LOL!!!
Your doggies dress up??? Cool!!! I, too, will be playing dress up that evening - as a wedding guest!!!
Tia
LOLLLLLLL my mom openly snagged the chocolate!! I almost forgot - it was safe back then to accept home made goodies from neighbors - like popcorn balls. And one neighbor used to give out nickles instead of candy - can you guess they were not the favorites?
We've only dressed them up in football jerseys, but I'm sure they'd put up with anything. They're awesome.
sniff sniff I'll be working at Kohl's instead of being home to dole out candy. DH gets all the fun...
Even the schools have gotten much stricter (and rightly so) in what you can send in for parties - if some even still have parties. B's teacher knows me personally, so he's allowing me to send in homemade brownies. I understand, particularly with allergies and such, but it's sad - I remember when our school Halloween parties were looked upon like a State holiday!!! I think last year, B's class had carrots and ranch, juice boxes and fruit snacks. Oh, my - did I have one disappointed little boy on my hand!!
You've GOT to take pics of them in their jerseys!!! I let my Mom dress Happy - she's so spastic (Happy, not Mom) that it's like trying to put a sweater on a greasy hot dog!!! LOL!!!
Okay, Kohl lady - let me know if you see any good deals on the Lego Star Wars Republic Gunship - that's tops on my boy's list and that hummer costs $120!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
