Depression

Thanks Debbie. Looks like my next step is to call Ranessa. She is the one who did my psych eval. Dang it, and when she said I was normal, I didn't realize normal would include being depressed after surgery!

Thanks for your support.

unfortunately losing weight quickly can make you depressed, homicidal even! All those hormones being released when you lose the fat causes it. I think it will eventually go away but going to a psychologist is a good idea. I had issues with depression/anxiety before surgery so I was already on meds. So for me, it has to be a regular thing, otherwise i'd go crazy. but it may not be that way for you. you might just have to weather the storm? Not sure how long you've felt bad but if it's been more than two weeks, i'd get some treatment for it.

Nicole,

Tia was telling me yesterday about losing weight rapidly and hormones being out of whack due to the fat leaving the body.  I'm hoping not to need to rely on meds and that it is a short-term issue.

I am having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that everything in my life is wonderful except the way I feel. I have an appointment to talk with my Dr next week and come up with a game plan.

Thanks and good luck to you on your continue success!

1.  More than depressed.  I was suicidal.......a few here can attest to that.....thank god I reached out here before I did the deed

2.  Mine started two months after surgery

3.  it's ongoing.....I'm no longer suicidal but I'm not 100% better

4.  yes.  I told my WLSurgeon about it and he immediately made an appointment for me with my PCP.  I went to my PCP and he put me on Pristiq...50 mg.

5.  I haven't seen a psych about it.  I need to see one though

6.  Like Tia, my surgeon wouldn't do the script....only my PCP can do that.

Sorry that you are going through this Ren.  I have not faced depression, however, I have been seeing Ranessa since my pre-surgical evaluation and she has been a life-saver.  I support all the others who have suggested checking in with her for some help.  You are brave for posting this!  I wish you all the best!
