Had my port replaced yesterday

I t was supposed to be uneventful - NOT.  The original port popped loose in 2 places - that was probably my discomfort.  I was told I would wake up with 2 incisions but I had 4.  While perusing my mesentary Dr. Singh found a small cyst on my liver and larger cyst on my ovary.  Biopsied both and they were benign.  When I was getting ready to leave my throat felt funny but I didn't pay it much mind.  Well, all day long I felt like a had a lugie (is that spelled correctly) in my throat and it hurt.  At about 6PM, I asked Jimmy to look and there we are comparing uvulas - you know, that thingy that hangs down in back of your throat.  Well, mine (the red swollen one) was the size of Ethan's pinkie - crap!
At about the same time the St Agnes recovery room nurse calls to see how I am - when I told her about my uvula she told me to get it checked out.  I called St. Joe's ER (i work there 1 day a week)  - they took me back right away, cultured me and gave me an antibiotic.  If its comes back positive for something funky I'm covered - if not - who knows????
Hope everyone is well.
Peace

WOW Ellen!  I just popped in to see what was going on and saw your post!  Sorry you had to have your port replaced, how the heck did that happen?  VERY glad to hear the cysts were benign!  I hope the uvula issue is cleared up with the antibiotics.  Were you intibated?  I hope all is well!  btw, any news on if your friend could use the insulin?

Not sure how the port popped a stictch or 2 - would love to make up some hot and steamy story but you'd know I was lying!!  This uvula thing is what is bothering me more.  Yes, I was intubated.  I think its hard to do general and get insuflated with CO2 and NOT get intubated.

Yes, Roy would love the insulin if no one else has claimed.  Their mission is not until late April but he is able to ship anytime.  He said he can only send sealed bottles however.
Thanks for your concern and thanks, from Roy, for the insulin.

Well give Roy my email: [email protected]  All the vials are sealed in the boxes and stored in my fridge safely.  Glad he can use them!  As for the uvula, maybe the tube snagged on it and aggrevated it.  I hope you are feeling better today!!!  I'm still working on shaking this tummy bug...4 days now!

Ellen that sounds scary.  Let us know how things check out.

Jenn, 2 doses of abx so far - looks a bit less red and swollen today.  They considered low dose prednisone as well but I didn't want my healing process affected by prednisone.
Thanks.

Wow - sounds like the port replacement was a blessing is disguise - glad the cysts were benign.  Just wondering, did the doctor give you any reasons for the port popping out of place?  My port is tilted.  The last time my doctor unfilled me, he had to do a little digging and I have wondered if that means eventually mine might need to be repositioned.  Hope you are feeling better.

Agree about the "blessing in disguise" since if a cyst were noted on a routine CT or ultrasound one day, doing a liver biopsy is SCARY!
Thanks = I am feeling better!

Probably from the intbation tube Ellen. Sometimes it will irritate and sometimes it won't. Glad to see you are ok though and have a fast recovery.

I asked Dr. Singh if the intubation was difficult - but what does he really know - I don't recall him being in the OR when they tubed me.
Man, I remember in my ICU days patients extubating themselves all the time - with the balloon inflated.  I have no room to complain - haha!
Thanks for your kind words.
