Jenn, Hope you are doing well. I am curious because I read that when you have wls you lose hair. I have very thick hair and it takes 3 hours for a perm. I love my hair since for years my body has sucked. I would not want to lose my hair. Yes thats what I was thinking and I did read it had something to do with vitamins and nutrients as well.. This surgery is a really big decision...

well, have you ever noticed  overweight people who have not had wls yet and are already loosing or have lost their hair?  Now im sure to become a good bit overweight or obeast that you are taking in more than enough protein to become overweight, at least i know i did.  They have some deficiency that has nothing to do with protein that is making them not GROW hair.  Most of the time these would be keratin, biotin or gelatin.  These things play a very very large role in hair growth.  But its like i said your hair runs on a growth cycle.  the growth stage, the resting stage and the falling out stage, and all your hairs are on a different stage.  So if at one point  a good bit of your hair is in the falling out stage and falls out and you dont have enough vits and minerals to make the growth stage start and make new hair then you are loosing hair like you should  but   not making anymore like you should.  You see what i mean.  I think weight loss surgery causes problems when it come to making new hair not that the surgery causes your hair to fall out.  However if you have very thick and somewhat on the coarse side which it sound like you do, then i would not worry about it, cause anything you loose your not going to notice anyway, lol.

THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION, LOL im sure some would say im crazy, but this is what they teach us in school in the chemistry/biology portion of the program and its a long long portion of the program, i could probably tell you things about your hair you would think were crazy, lol.

Also Julie do yourself a favor and go to Walgreen's or any other drug store and stock up and start taking Biotin it is cheap and for the most part Walgreen's has a buy one get one on vitamin supplements all the time. I started taking biotin 3 weeks before my surgery in Nov. and I continue to take it until I know I am out of that danger of losing my already thinning hair and it has worked. I take 2 a day one in the morning and one at night. I haven't had the hair fallout at all.
