Anyone left to recover alone?

I just found out that I will be basically recovering by myself.  I have family and friends that are able to be with me day of surgery and day after but nobody will be able to stay with me at home for my recovery. My mom and friends will stop by and check in on me but otherwise I am alone. My boyfriend is leaving to go out of town morning of surgery!!!  Which also means that my children will be home for me to take care of. They are older so no lifting but the argueing and drama will be enough to put me over the edge! Has anyone recovered by themselves? Will I make it by myself?

How old are the kids? I had my dad at home while my husband worked so had some help. I was just exhausted that first week. I could walk around and shower and change myself but I was just passing out every few hours.

My kids are 16 girl, she will be there for surgery (she will be a huge help, when she isn't in school) 14 boy who is clueless....9 girl who is so emotional she will cry that mommy is in pain.....and god love my baby she is 4 and she runs my house. She is 2 handfuls!!!  And she and her sisters argue all the time. So, I am in for the ride of my life. My brother inlaw with help with taking the kids to school and daycare so I will be completely alone from 8-3 and then the games will begin. I AM SO SCARED!!!!! I am a mommy thru and thru I will not be able to lay still hearing my kids needing me.

It may not be bad. It seems everyone reacts differently to the surgery. Some folks are in a lot of pain and need more assistance. Others do not. I don't have a full household like you do. I had arranged for someone to stay with me overnight and I had people I could call during the day. Otherwise, I was alone at home. After the second night of having someone stay with me, I told them I did not need them to do that anymore, and I was OK. I also did not need to take the pain meds. Therefore I was allowed to drive early out.

I think it would be helpful to make it clear to your kids that you need their help to get through this. Hopefully, they can hold down the drama for a bit. They might just surprise you! I think it is good that your Mom and friends are accessible, just in case.

I got my fingers crossed that my kids will pull through. But, I am glad to hear that you made it solo. I am hoping that I will be the same way. I don't like taking a whole lot of pain meds so hopefully I will have little pain to stick with no meds......

Good question... I've been wondering about this myself. My DH will be able to take me to/from surgery but he started a new job so there's no way he's missing any other time. He'll be home at night and I have neighbors I can call during the day if needed.

Oh, that sounds like a good plan.  A little too ambitious of me to expect that from the DH though. LOL.

Nope, no human kids, just 2 golden retrievers.  Fortunately they are pretty good about not jumping on me or laying on my belly, just my lap.
