Hi! I am getting my medical transcriptionist license and am looking for a job. Do you know if Kaiser Permanente is hiring and do they hire people to work from home? Thanks Dana Hogue

Is Penn Foster Medical Transcriptionist Certificate program a joke? I would like to know if anyone has taken their course before and if they have ever had a hard time finding a job? I have heard other online programs are much better, but not sure who to go with, really.

Topic: RE: DO NOT GO TO WORK FOR SPHERIS
I had the same experience with them. When I started with them 4 years ago, only part-time, I was making 1,000 every 2 weeks, but now, with all the good work going to India and getting all foreign dictators, I only make about $350 every 2 weeks. There have been no pay increases since the first 3 months I was there. Can you recommend a good MT company? It seems the company wants the U.S. employees to quit by making it as miserable as possible.

Topic: Useful resources for medical transcriptionists

Hi all, Sharing a couple of personal bookmarks of mine that have been useful to me. The first one is a resource website for MTs that has lots and lots of useful sample reports. Here's the link to this helpful site.

The second resource I want to share is a search engine JUST for MTs. The sites this search engine searches are primarily MT-related, hence better and faster search results. You certainly don't have to scan through tens of pages with this search engine. Here's the link to this useful search engine for MTs.

Topic: RE: DO NOT GO TO WORK FOR SPHERIS
Hi, I am new to this message board. I am considering a career in medical transcription. Sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with Spheris. This is some of what I need to learn about down the road. What has your experience been like as a medical transcriptionist? I am considering career step for training. Any thoughts on this school? How much do you have to transcribe in a week to make a decent salary? Are there companies that hire right out of school? I notice many job postings require a year or more of experience. This worries me that it might be difficult to break in to the business. Although, career step and other schools promise placement if you excel in the course I am interested in working from home. Voice recognition: Is this the wave of the future? If so, I am wondering if schools will prepare with voice recognition training. Any info you could provide would be much appreciated!! Thanks, sherry 9

This company just started an "Exciting new voice recognition program with a great new pay scale." Yeah, right. I went from making over $800 every couple weeks to now less than $350 every couple weeks. Exciting by $@#@%. DO NOT CONSIDER THIS COMPANY. IT SUCKS.

Topic: need help with a quiz
Hi I am having a little trouble with a quiz and was wondering if anyone could help me out. This is what I have so far. GROSS DESCRIPTION CLINICAL HISTORY: A 39-year-old white female with a 2 day history of right breast mass. TISSUE SPECIMEN: Right breast mass. NAME OF OPERATION: Needle biopsy, right breast. PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Rule out CA or carcinoma breast. Specimen labeled "needle biopsy, right breast", is received. Fresh frozen section of gauze consists of two single pieces of tissue measuring 1 cm X 0.1 x 0.1 was symmetrical tannish soft pliable tissue. It is submitted in its entirety. My grammer, so far, is what gets me in trouble for most of my work. I am going to an online school and I have only 4 more chapters to go. There is not much room for error on this one because it's so short. One mistake could kill it all. Just hoping someone could help. Thanks Patty_g

Topic: RE: Career Step?
Hi! I did Career Step and I think it is really the best school. of course there are other good schools. Transcription411.com has some good information in their "Career" section on how to choose a school and some links to different reputable schools as well as articles on what to look for. Id say there are probably 2 or 3 that are really good and have good support for graduates, and then others that are more diploma mills that you want to stay clear of. Overall, i think going with career step was the right choice for me. they are a little pricey but I think they are worth it. anyway, check out transcription411.com-- that will help you make the decision!
