Topic: Looking for a job
Hello, I am looking for a medical transcription position at home. I did the post secondary program and have been working as a transciptionist in a medical clinic for three years with internal medicine, infectious disease, pulmonary, and some cardiology. There are no many different companies it is confusing to know which ones to consider. Can anyone with experience give some input? Thanks.

Hi Deb - I hope you are the "contact" that I am looking for..... I work at a cc myself and would like to find a PT at home position perhaps to branch out to in entirety. I am an excellent typist (love it, in fact) and plan to take the MT course here at the college. Personally knowing the instructor, she said I could borrow the foot pedal and download the software used in class.
Please email me at [email protected] and let me know if this is worth pursuing. I am extremely responsible, have access to hi-speed internet, laser printer, overnight mail etc.... just need the right "contacts" to make this goal of mine happen.
Have a blessed day!

Topic: RE: Looking into Medical Transcription
Hello Lynn,
Sorry this answer is coming MONTHS after it was asked. By now you have probably already made a decision as to whether medical transcription is something you want to pursue.
I've been an MT for 20 years. If it is VERY difficult field to get in to, but it is possible. My suggestion would be that you start out with a school like Career Step or Andrews...both of which are recognized by the AAMT (American Association of Medical Transcriptionists)...both schools will help you get started in the business. Honestly, I could not make as much money doing something else than I do being an MT...but I've been doing this a long time. You don't start out making good making, but the more you do it, the more money you make. I wouldn't do anything else. I would forget the Sierra training packets...or any of the courses offered on Ebay...it is a waste of money and a waste of your time. The certification you receive from ANY school is merely a piece of paper stating you completed the course.....it does not make you a certified MT. The only way to become a CMT is through AAMT...and you have to have at least 2 years experience in acute care to even take the test.
If you do this...go with a recognized school.
That's my story, and I am sticking to it.
Hope it helps.

Yes!!! I am desperately looking for any transcription work that is home-based! I recently graduated from U.S. Career Institute and just need to get a little experience. I had a baby 7 months ago and haven't worked since. Our savings is almost gone so I need to find some work, little or big, A.S.A.P.
Thanks,

Topic: RE: MedQuist
I don't work for medquist, but I seriously considered it about 6 months ago. A message board that I used to belong to bashed them pretty good when I mentioned it so I didn't end up taking the job. They have been emailing me ever since to give me a position...I'm still wondering if I should just try it or not. I'll be interested to see what other people have to say :)

Look into community colleges. I have to warn you, only those people with very good ears, can type very, very fast will make a livable wage. You will probably make just as much working as a office secretary. I love my job, but it barely pays the bills.

Andrea, check the MedQuist website. They have newbie training programs. In fact, as an experience transcriptionist, they give most of the difficult to us and use the easier accounts to their newbies. Try an get on an E.R. account.

Contact me. I can give you the software for free word expander programs that are essentially the same as shorthand for typing. They will increase your production by up to 40%. My email address is [email protected].

Scam company! Do not buy into that!!! Check out posts for them at MT Daily and MT Stars. They are bad news!
