Colonoscopy after WLS

Okay, Just a quick question. Any problems or concerns when having a colonoscopy after WLS? I wouldn't think that this would be a problem, but as someone who has to have one in the coming months, I thought I would ask for advise.  So let me know what to ask or what to avoid. Thanks

I asked my surgeon this before my RNY in August.  My wife had recently had her first, and I had recently reached 50 y.o., the age when doctors want to start doing all sorts of humiliating things to your orifices!  Anyway, my surgeon said just to wait until at least 6 months after surgery, and there should be no problems.  I think the 6-month wait is because she doesn't want any of the 'roto-rooter' medicine you have to take before the colonoscopy to mess with your new stitch lines. As for what they look at in a colonoscopy, it's WAY 'downstream' from where you had your plumbing re-routed.

Advice: Avoid docs with cold hands and long fingers unless they give good drugs!

Hmmmmm, Just one question.  How are you going to get all that liquid down??

I don't know, Michael.  There MUST be a way to do it though, 'cause my surgeon's office offers it there (at St Vincents hospital, where she did my RNY). I will say that I have found that now after 6 weeks, I can drink liquids faster than what was recommended, without discomfort.  (Not chugging, mind you.  But a lot faster than the original 1-oz-per-5-minutes.) It's the semi-solid stuff that goes in my pouch and just lays there, that I've got to be careful with.   

The liquid should go down a couple of days a week, I down about that quantity of brown rice pouridge. For most people semi-liquid stuff goes right through.

The hose isn't that long! So shouldn't be a problem with the procedure. Make sure you tell them you are bareatric so hopefully they can give you a laxative that doesn't require you to drink all the liquid. That would be the only problem that I could foresee. I've had two, but none since my r n y.

This is no problem.  I had mine a year and a half ago.  The doctor's should be aware of your medical history before any procedure.  They'll make all the right turns with their video equipment.

The prep is really something you will treasure.  Just make sure that you are home and have a standing reservation with the toilet that evening.  The prep will definitely clear you out.  I think you are required to have someone drive you home after the procedure.  They'll probably give you a color picture to take home for some reason.  Still can't figure that one out.

Agree!! All I know is I felt extremely "violated" after the procedure (aka the twister) and basically just curled up in a fetal position once I got home. Boner
