Hey Guys,

Found this article, looks like good protein, good fat, probiotics, tea, B vitamins and certain mineral are what do it:

Thanks Dave, After reading the article I give myself a C+ in the healthy eating area: mostly okay but way low on fruits and veggies (mostly protein right now) and zero tea. For some reason I'm hesitant to eat fruits and veggies--still thinking pre-op: don't want to add "extra" calories to the necessary protein. Maybe the low-carb route is leaving my brain starved for essential nutrients? I have to keep wrestling with old, non-rational myths about eating. Still afraid of eating "too much" and so sacrificing fruits/veggies. Thanks again for the article. Every reminder to live a more balanced life helps.

Hi Doug,

Being on low carb, I get enough of everything on there except for fruit. I never have like it enough to even have the occasional craving for it. Plus, on the carb-load days, the starches are supposed to come first wave, so no room for fruits after that! I certainly get the protein and certainly the fat from Omega 3 sources (part of my diet).

So maybe I can load on fruit juice second wave of carb load. That oughtta drive up the old calorie count (and diarrhea count!).

I could probably use more tea. I'm in the right place for that!

You're quite welcome, Jim!

I was pleased to see that I wa****ting on everything but fruit. I suppose many people are actually healthier post-op because they are getting the protein and vitamins that they should have had originally.

OK, Is this why I’ve had SO Fewer coughs, flu’ss and colds since WLS? Yogurt? Check. Phytochemicals? Check! I try to eat a full “spectrum” of colored veggies each day. A lot of berries, apples, green beans (Fresh and sugar snap peas) Eggplant, Red Peppers, purple cabbage, Yellow Squash, carrots, a lot of tomatoes, zucchini, etc… Purple to yellow and everything in between. The Green Tea I only have occasionally. My wife is a green-tea fanatic, so it’s on hand all the time. I also follow the “good fats” policy. Canola Mayo, a lots of good quality Olive oil. (the new butter) I guess early on, I read some- “Eat all of the colors” article, and it stuck. I also avoid white carbs, so when I do eat grains They tend to be sprouted grains or whole grains. Thanks for the article. It reinforces my eating choices, And reminds me to sneak a little more of my wife’s green tea. Best Wishes- Dx

Hehe...Dx,

I had a funny, twisted thought...do you ever wonder if eating a variety of fruits and vegetables simply prevents any single one of the many agricultural chemicals/ pesticides from building up in the body?

Sorry, being dark helps me process information sometimes!

I'm really trying to be good!
